Abstract

Various disclosed embodiments include methods and apparatus for inter-cell coordination for a device-to-device communication resource allocation. A method includes allocating, at a first base station, a device-to-device (D2D) communication resource from a pool of communication resources to a first electronic device controlled by the first base station, wherein the first electronic device is within a D2D communication group. The method also includes, in response to a second electronic device within the D2D communication group being controlled by a second base station, transmitting, by the first base station, information corresponding to the D2D communication resource allocation to the second base station.

Claims

1. A method for resource allocation for a device-to-device communication, the method comprising:

allocating, at a first base station, a device-to-device (D2D) communication resource from a pool of communication resources to a first electronic device controlled by the first base station, wherein the first electronic device is within a D2D communication group; and

in response to a second electronic device within the D2D communication group being controlled by a second base station, transmitting, by the first base station, information corresponding to the D2D communication resource allocation to the second base station.

2. The method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising:

in response to a third electronic device within the D2D communication group being controlled by a third base station, transmitting, by the first base station, information corresponding to the D2D communication resource allocation to the third base station.

3. The method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, at the first base station, a D2D scheduling request from the first electronic device, the D2D scheduling request associated with the allocation of the D2D communication resource.

4. The method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising, at the first base station:

in response to detecting a need to change the pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group, transmitting information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources to a fourth electronic device within the D2D communication group, the fourth electronic device controlled by the first base station.

5. The method in accordance with claim 1, wherein the pool of communication resources is specific to a group of electronic devices engaged in a D2D group communication session.

6. The method in accordance with claim 1, further comprising, at the first base station:

in response to detecting a need to change the pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group, transmitting information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources to the second base station.

7. The method in accordance with claim 6, further comprising, at the second base station:

in response to receiving the information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources from the first base station, transmitting information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources to the second electronic device.

8. The method in accordance with claim 2, further comprising, at the first base station:

in response to detecting a need to change the pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group, transmitting information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources to the second base station and to the third base station.

9. The method in accordance with claim 7, further comprising, at the second base station:

receiving information corresponding to a second changed pool of communication resources from a third base station that controls a third electronic device within the D2D communication group; and

transmitting information corresponding to the second changed pool of communication resources to the second electronic device.

10. The method in accordance with claim 9, wherein the information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources and the information corresponding to the second changed pool of communication resources is combined prior to transmission to the second electronic device.

11. A system for resource allocation for a device-to-device communication, the system comprising:

a first base station configured to;

allocate a device-to-device (D2D) communication resource from a pool of communication resources to a first electronic device controlled by the first base station, wherein the first electronic device is within a D2D communication group; and

in response to a second electronic device within the D2D communication group being controlled by a second base station, transmit information corresponding to the D2D communication resource allocation to the second base station.

12. The system in accordance with claim 11, the first base station further configured to:

in response to a third electronic device within the D2D communication group being controlled by a third base station, transmit information corresponding to the D2D communication resource allocation to the third base station.

13. The system in accordance with claim 11, the first base station further configured to:

receive a D2D scheduling request from the first electronic device, the D2D scheduling request associated with the allocation of the D2D communication resource.

14. The system in accordance with claim 11, wherein the pool of communication resources is specific to a group of electronic devices engaged in a D2D group communication session.

15. The system in accordance with claim 11, the first base station further configured to:

in response to detecting a need to change the pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group, transmit information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources to the second base station.

16. The system in accordance with claim 15, the system further comprising:

the second base station configured to, in response to receiving the information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources from the first base station, transmit information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources to the second electronic device.

17. The system in accordance with claim 12, the first base station further configured to:

in response to detecting a need to change the pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group, transmit information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources to the second base station and to the third base station.

18. The system in accordance with claim 16, the second base station further configured to:

receive information corresponding to a second changed pool of communication resources from a third base station that controls a third electronic device within the D2D communication group; and

transmit information corresponding to the second changed pool of communication resources to the second electronic device.

19. The system in accordance with claim 18, wherein the information corresponding to the changed pool of communication resources and the information corresponding to the second changed pool of communication resources is combined prior to transmission to the second electronic device.

20. A method for resource allocation for a device-to-device communication, the method comprising:

determining, at an electronic device within a device-to-device (D2D) communication group, whether a reception pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group has changed;

in response to determining that the reception pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group has changed;

modifying the reception pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group to produce a modified reception pool for the D2D communication group; and

receiving D2D data transmissions in accordance with the modified reception pool for the D2D communication group; and

in response to determining that the reception pool of communication resources for the D2D communication group has not changed;

receiving D2D data transmissions in accordance with the reception pool for the D2D communication group.
