Abstract

A thermally modulating inhalable medicament delivery device may deliver an inhalable medicament as an aerosol, vapor, or partial aerosol and partial vapor mixture. The inhalable medicament may be delivered to a target in a subject. Described herein are devices, systems, and methods for delivering an inhalable medicament to a subject.

Claims

1. An inhaled medicament delivery device, comprising

a. a slideable reservoir tap having a hollow interior and a first port, wherein said first port is positioned to create a communication between said hollow interior and an exterior space outside of said slideable reservoir tap when said first port is not covered, and wherein said slideable reservoir tap has a proximal end and a distal end;

and

b. a cartridge having a proximal end and a distal end, said cartridge comprising

i. a penetrable seal positioned at said proximal end of said cartridge and adjacent to said distal end of said slideable reservoir tap;

ii. a reservoir positioned adjacent to said seal within said cartridge and configured to contain a liquid medicament; and

iii. a gaseous propellant, compressed within said cartridge to a pressure above ambient pressure, wherein said reservoir is positioned closer to said penetrable seal than a location of at least a portion of said gaseous propellant.

2. The inhaled medicament delivery device of claim 1, wherein said seal is self-sealing.

3. The inhaled medicament delivery device of claim 1, further comprises an air amplifier.

4. The inhaled medicament delivery device of claim 1, wherein said cartridge contains a liquid medicament.

5. The inhaled medicament delivery device of claim 1, wherein said reservoir comprises a bladder.

6. The inhaled medicament delivery device of claim 5, wherein said bladder is configured to generate an intrinsic pressure on a medicament contained therein.

7. The inhaled medicament delivery device of claim 1, wherein said moveable reservoir tap comprises a second port.

8. The inhaled medicament delivery device of claim 7, wherein said second port has a larger diameter than said first port.

9. A cartridge for delivering an inhalable medicament to a subject, said cartridge comprising

a. a penetrable seal, wherein said seal covers an opening in said canister;

b. a reservoir adjacent to said penetrable seal;

c. a liquid medicament contained within said reservoir;

d. a gaseous propellant compressed within said cartridge to a pressure above ambient pressure, wherein said liquid medicament is positioned closer to said penetrable seal than a location of at least a portion of said gaseous propellant; and

,

e. a coupler configured to reversibly couple said cartridge to a conduit for delivery of said inhalable medicament to said subject.

10. The cartridge of claim 9, wherein said penetrable seal is self-sealing.

11. The cartridge of claim 9, wherein said conduit for delivery of said inhalable medicament to the airway of said subject comprises an elongate housing containing a slideable reservoir tap.

12. The cartridge of claim 11, wherein said reservoir tap comprises a hollow interior that is continuous with the hollow interior of an aspiration tube, and wherein said reservoir tap further comprises a port positioned to create a communication between said hollow interior and an exterior space outside of said slideable reservoir tap when said port is not covered.

13. The cartridge of claim 9, wherein said conduit for delivery of said inhalable medicament to said subject comprises an elongate housing coupled with an endotracheal tube.

14. The cartridge of claim 9, wherein said cartridge is reversibly coupled to said conduit.

15. A method for delivering an inhalable medicament, said method comprising

coupling a cartridge to an elongate housing containing a reservoir tap having a hollow interior, wherein said cartridge comprises

a penetrable seal positioned adjacent to said hollow interior when said cartridge is coupled to said elongate housing;

and

an inhalable medicament within said cartridge that is compressed to a pressure above ambient pressure; and

penetrating said penetrable seal with said slideable reservoir tap thereby aerosolizing said inhalable medicament and ejecting said inhalable medicament into said elongate housing.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein said penetrable seal is self-sealing.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein elongate housing further comprises a heater.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of heating, with said heater, said ejected aerosol within said elongate housing.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein said reservoir tap is controllably slideable within said elongate housing.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein said hollow vessel comprises a port, and wherein said port creates a communication between said hollow interior of said canister and said hollow vessel when said hollow vessel penetrates said seal.

21. The method of claim 15, wherein said inhalable medicament is substantially in liquid form before said seal is penetrated by said hollow vessel.

22. A method for delivering an inhalable medicament with an orientation independent system, said method comprising

penetrating a seal of a cartridge, said cartridge comprising

a penetrable seal covering an opening in said cartridge;

a medicament reservoir positioned adjacent to said seal;

an inhalable medicament within said medicament reservoir; and

a propellant substantially located further from said seal than said medicament independent of said orientation of said cartridge.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein said penetrable seal is self-sealing.

24. The method of claim 22, further comprising coupling said cartridge to an elongate housing further comprises a reservoir tap and a heater.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein said reservoir tap is controllably slideable within said elongate housing.

26. The method of claim 25, further comprising the step of penetrating said penetrable seal with said reservoir tap ejecting said medicament.

27. The method of claim 26, further comprising heating, with said heater, said ejected medicament within said elongate housing.
