- a drug reservoir;
a pump for causing drug delivery from the reservoir;
a receiver for receiving control and program-modification signals from a smartphone;
in electronic communication with the receiver, a controller for adjusting operation of the device based, at least in part, on the control signals; and
a memory for storing a program of instructions executable by the controller to operate the pump according to a drug delivery protocol,wherein the controller is configured to permit modification of the stored instructions in response to the program-modification signals received wirelessly by the receiver.

12. A smartphone operable for controlling an drug pump device having an on-board controller and stored executable instructions therefor, the smartphone comprising:

a processor; a wireless communication module facilitating wireless communication; a memory for storing a plurality of application programs; and an interface for facilitating selection of an application program and execution thereof by the smartphone processor, wherein one of the application programs, when executed, facilitates (i) receiving commands via the interface of the smartphone, and (ii) based on the commands, issuing control signals to the controller of the drug pump device and modifying the executable instructions stored on the drug pump device via the wireless communication module of the smartphone. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16)

17. A method of operating a smartphone-controllable drug pump device, the method comprising:

selecting an application program from a plurality of application programs stored in a memory of a smartphone; executing the application program to facilitate (i) receiving user commands via an interface of the smartphone and (ii) based on the commands, wirelessly issuing instructions to the drug pump device to modify an executable program stored thereon for operating the drug pump device in accordance with a drug-delivery protocol; receiving the control signal at a receiver in the drug pump device; and modifying the stored program in accordance with the received instructions. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19)
