1. A method for calibrating a substantially continuous analyte sensor, the method comprising:

  • receiving, by a communication module, a data stream comprising one or more sensor data points from a substantially continuous analyte sensor;

    receiving, by the communication module, reference data comprising one or more reference data points from a reference analyte monitor;

    forming, by a processor module, at least one matched data pair by matching the one or more reference data points to the one or more sensor data points;

    forming, by the processor module, a calibration data set using the one or more sensor data points and the one or more reference points using the at least one matched data pair;

    determining, by the processor module, a level of confidence based on data that forms the calibration data set by measuring an association of the calibration data set to a curve using a statistical analysis; and

    providing one of a plurality of different display modes on a display screen based on the level of confidence.
