1. A prosthetic capsular device configured to be inserted in a natural capsular bag of an eye after removal of a lens, the device comprising:

  • a housing structure capable of containing and insulating an electronic device, the housing structure including;

    a first flat lateral sidewall, the first flat lateral sidewall having a first length and including;

    a first end, anda second end;

    a second flat lateral sidewall opposite the first flat lateral sidewall, the second flat lateral sidewall having a second length and including;

    a first end, anda second end;

    a third arcuate lateral sidewall extending between the first end of the first flat lateral sidewall and the first end of the second flat lateral sidewall, the third arcuate lateral sidewall comprising a first insulated structure capable of thermally insulating an eye from heat produced by an electronic device contained in the housing structure, the third arcuate lateral sidewall having a third length less than the first length and the second length, the third arcuate lateral sidewall further comprising a capsular bag-contacting surface;

    a fourth arcuate lateral sidewall extending between the second end of the first flat lateral sidewall and the second end of the second flat lateral sidewall, the fourth arcuate lateral sidewall opposite the third arcuate lateral sidewall, the fourth arcuate lateral sidewall comprising a second insulated structure capable of thermally insulating an eye from heat produced by an electronic device contained in the housing structure, the fourth arcuate lateral sidewall having a fourth length less than the first length and the second length, the fourth arcuate lateral sidewall further comprising a capsular bag-contacting surface;

    a posterior sidewall including a refractive surface; and

    an anterior sidewall opposite the posterior sidewall, the anterior sidewall including an opening capable of allowing at least one of insertion, repair, removal, and replacement of an electronic device,the first flat lateral sidewall, the second flat lateral sidewall, the third arcuate lateral sidewall, the fourth arcuate lateral sidewall, the posterior sidewall, and the anterior sidewall at least partially defining a cavity, the cavity of the housing structure capable of containing an intraocular lens (IOL) and an electronic device; and

    a ring structure including a ring structure portion extending radially outward from proximate one of the first end of the first flat lateral sidewall, the second end of the first flat lateral sidewall, the first end of the second flat lateral sidewall, and the second end of the second flat lateral sidewall, the ring structure comprising a capsular bag-contacting surface,wherein a thickness of the third arcuate lateral sidewall comprising the first insulated structure is greater than a thickness of the first flat lateral sidewall and a thickness of the second flat lateral sidewall, and wherein a thickness of the fourth arcuate lateral sidewall comprising the second insulated structure is greater than the thickness of the first flat lateral sidewall and the thickness of the second flat lateral sidewall.
