A method for promoting wound healing in a subject, the method comprising administering isolated expanded human non-embryonic non-germ cells, the cells having undergone at least 10-40 cell doublings in culture, wherein the cells express telomerase and have a normal karyotype, to the subject in a therapeutically effective amount and for a sufficient time to the wound to promote the wound healing in the subject.
