Abstract

A system, method, and processor readable medium for processing data in a knowledge management system gathers information content and transmits a work request for the information content gathered. The information content may be registered with a K-map and assigned a unique document identifier. A work queue processes the work requests. The processed information may then be transmitted to another work queue for further processing. Further processing may include categorization, full-text indexing, metrics extraction or other process. Control messages may be transmitted to one or more users providing a status of the work request. The information may be analyzed and further indexed. A progress statistics report may be generated for each of the processes performed on the document. The progress statistics may be provided in a record. A shared access to a central data structure representing the metrics history and taxonomy may be provided for all work queues via a CORBA service.

Claims

1. A method for organizing knowledge data comprising:

providing a place associated with at least a subset of the knowledge data, said place including at least one portal having a search window for searching the subset of the knowledge data, a list for displaying indicia associated with one or more persons having an affinity to the subset of knowledge data, and communication means to initiate communication with the one or more persons;

enabling a user to search the subset of the knowledge data using the search window;

retrieving a portion of the subset of the knowledge data;

displaying indicia associated with one or more persons having an affinity to the retrieved knowledge data;

enabling a user to select one or more of the displayed indicia; and

initiating communication with one or more persons associated with the selected indicia.

2. A system for organizing knowledge data comprising:

a place, said place associated with at least a subset of the knowledge data, and said place including at least one portal having a search window for searching the subset of the knowledge data, a list for displaying indicia associated with one or more persons having an affinity to the subset of the knowledge data, and communication means to initiate communication with the one or more persons;

a search module that enables a user to search the subset of the knowledge data using the search window;

a retrieving module that retrieves a portion of the subset of the knowledge data;

a display module that displays indicia associated with one or more persons having an affinity to the retrieved knowledge data in the list;

a selection module that enables a user to select one or more of the displayed indicia; and

a communication module that enables a user to initiate communication with one or more persons associated with the selected indicia.

3. A system for organizing knowledge data comprising:

a place, said place associated with at least a subset of the knowledge data, and said place including at least one portal having a search window for searching the subset of the knowledge data, a list for displaying indicia associated with one or more persons having an affinity to the subset of the knowledge data, and communication means to initiate communication with the one or more persons;

a search means that enables a user to search the subset of the knowledge data using the search window;

a retrieving means that retrieves a portion of the subset of the knowledge data;

a display means that displays indicia associated with one or more persons having an affinity to the retrieved knowledge data in the list;

a selection means that enables a user to select one or more of the displayed indicia; and

a communication means that enables a user to initiate communication with one or more persons associated with the selected indicia.
