1. A system for adjusting a control model, comprising:

  • at least one actuator for controlling a process;

    at least one sensor for measuring information pertaining to the status of the process;

    a local system coupled to the at least one actuator and the at least one sensor;

    a packet network for carrying packet data traffic;

    a remote system located remotely from the local system, and coupled to the local system via the packet network, wherein the local system includes;

    logic for receiving sensor information from the at least one sensor, and for transmitting the sensor information to the remote system via the packet network;

    logic for receiving control information from the remote station via the packet network, and for transmitting the control information to the at least one actuator;

    wherein the remote system includes;

    logic for receiving the sensor information from the local system;

    logic for determining whether the sensor information warrants a change to a control model or a control recipe used to govern the operation of the at least one actuator, and for formulating control information which reflects the outcome of such determining; and

    logic for transmitting the control information to the local system via the packet network.
