Abstract

A locator system for processing commercial 911 requests is disclosed. An e911-enabled wireless network including a switching center is configured to route emergency 911 calls to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP); and is further configured to receive a commercial 911 request from the mobile station, and then route the commercial request to a location other than the PSAP. The routing of the commercial 911 request may be accomplished using a protocol indicating that the 911 request is of a commercial nature, and the subscriber may be billed for the location request.

Claims

1. A locator system for processing commercial 911 requests comprising:

a GPS-enabled mobile station including a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card in communication with a E911-enabled wireless network;

the e911-enabled wireless network including a switching center for managing communications and billing for said mobile station and wireless network, the switching center being configured to route emergency 911 calls to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP);

the switching center being configured to;

receive a commercial 911 request from said mobile station;

route said request to a location other than said PSAP; and

bill said subscriber for said request.

2. The locator system of claim 1, wherein said SIM card is configured to provision location services.

3. The locator system of claim 2, wherein said SIM card is configured to bill said subscriber for said location services.

4. The locator system of claim 1, wherein said commercial 911 request comprises a protocol indicating that the 911 request is of a commercial nature.

5. The locator system of claim 4, wherein said switching center is configured to route said commercial 911 request responsive to said protocol.

6. The locator system of claim 5, wherein said switching center is configured to determine the location of said mobile station utilizing e911 location information regarding said mobile station.

7. The locator system of claim 6, wherein said location information is forwarded to a subscriber.

8. The locator system of claim 7, wherein said SIM card of said mobile station is configured to generate said commercial 911 request.

9. The locator system of claim 8, wherein said mobile station is further configured to send its location at predetermined intervals to said subscriber.

10. The locator system of claim 9, wherein said mobile station is further configured to transmit a commercial 911 request when nearing forbidden zones as pre-defined by the subscriber.

11. The locator system of claim 10, wherein said mobile station is further configured to generate and transmit said location information without intervention from the user of said mobile station.

12. A locator system for processing commercial 911 requests comprising:

switching center means for managing communications between said mobile station and e911-enabled wireless network;

the switching center including means for routing emergency 911 calls to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP); and

the switching center further comprising;

means for receiving a commercial 911 request from said mobile station and routing said request to a location other than said PSAP;

means for route said request to a location other than said PSAP; and

means for bill said subscriber for said request.

13. The locator system of claim 12, wherein said SIM card comprises means for provisioning location services.

14. The locator system of claim 13, wherein said SIM card comprises means for billing said subscriber for said location services.

15. The locator system of claim 12, wherein said commercial 911 request comprises protocol means for indicating that the 911 request is of a commercial nature.

16. The locator system of claim 15, further comprising means for routing said commercial 911 request responsive to said protocol means.

17. The locator system of claim 16, further comprising means for determining the location of said mobile station utilizing e911 location information regarding said mobile station.

18. The locator system of claim 17, further comprising means for forwarding location information regarding said mobile station to a subscriber.

19. The locator system of claim 18, wherein a SIM card of said mobile station is configured to generate said commercial 911 request.

20. The locator system of claim 19, further comprising means for providing its location at predetermined intervals to said subscriber.

21. The locator system of claim 20, further comprising means for transmitting a commercial 911 request when nearing forbidden zones as pre-defined by the subscriber.

22. The locator system of claim 21 further comprising means for generating and transmitting said location information without intervention from the user of said mobile station.
