Abstract

A method and system for providing a telematics readiness mode including receiving a first readiness mode input at a telematics unit, initiating a readiness mode responsive to the received first readiness mode input, receiving a second readiness mode input at the telematics unit while in the readiness mode, and determining a readiness action based on the received second readiness mode input. A computer usable medium with suitable computer program code is employed for providing a telematics readiness mode.

Claims

1. A method for providing a telematics readiness mode, the method comprising:

receiving a first readiness mode input at a telematics unit;

initiating a readiness mode responsive to the received first readiness mode input;

receiving a second readiness mode input at the telematics unit while in the readiness mode; and

determining a readiness action based on the received second readiness mode input.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the telematics readiness mode is an operational state of the telematics unit in which the telematics unit listens for the second readiness mode input prior to the determination of a readiness action.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein determining a readiness action comprises:

determining readiness action preferences; and

initiating the readiness action based on the readiness action preferences and the second readiness mode input.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

terminating the readiness mode based on determining the readiness action.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining pre-connection preferences;

initiating a pre-connection activity at the telematics unit while the readiness mode is active based on the pre-connection preferences;

establishing a vehicle data to a call center responsive to the step of initiating; and

transferring vehicle data responsive to the step of establishing.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating a status information message at the telematics unit within a mobile vehicle responsive to the received first readiness mode input wherein the status information message includes information indicating the current state of the mobile vehicle; and

sending the status information message from the telematics unit to a call center.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving an input request from the call center at the telematics unit subsequent to initiating the readiness mode; and

sending a response from the telematics unit to the call center based on the received input request.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating a tracking record at the telematics unit responsive to initiating the readiness mode wherein the tracking record includes mobile vehicle location data updated at a predefined time interval; and

sending the tracking record from the telematics unit to a tracking storage location.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining a first readiness mode input extent at the telematics unit;

determining a response prompt corresponding to the first readiness mode input extent;

sending the response prompt from the telematics unit to a subscriber; and

receiving a response input from the subscriber at the telematics unit based on the response prompt.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the first readiness mode input is selected from the group consisting of a button press, a collision detection, a theft detection, and a voice command.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the second readiness mode input is selected from the group consisting of a button press, a voice command, a timeout, a pre-defined word recognition, and a switch input.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the readiness action is selected from the group consisting of notifying a responder, initiating mobile vehicle tracking, disabling mobility, and sending a stored record.

13. A system for providing a telematics readiness mode, the system comprising:

means for receiving a first readiness mode input at a telematics unit;

means for initiating a readiness mode responsive to the received first readiness mode input;

means for receiving a second readiness mode input at the telematics unit while in the readiness mode; and

means for determining a readiness action based on the received second readiness mode input.

14. A computer usable medium storing a computer program including computer program code for providing a telematics readiness mode, the computer usable medium comprising:

computer program code for receiving a first readiness mode input at a telematics unit;

computer program code for initiating a readiness mode responsive to the received first readiness mode input;

computer program code for receiving a second readiness mode input at the telematics unit while in the readiness mode; and

computer program code for determining a readiness action based on the received second readiness mode input.

15. The computer usable medium of claim 14 wherein computer program code for determining a readiness action comprises:

computer program code for determining readiness action preferences; and

computer program code for initiating the readiness action based on the readiness action preferences and the second readiness mode input.

16. The computer usable medium of claim 14 further comprising:

computer program code for terminating the readiness mode based on the determination.

17. The computer usable medium of claim 14 further comprising:

computer program code for determining pre-connection preferences; and

computer program code for initiating a pre-connection activity at the telematics unit while the readiness mode is active based on the pre-connection preferences.

18. The computer usable medium of claim 14 further comprising:

computer program code for generating a status information message at the telematics unit within a mobile vehicle responsive to the received first readiness mode input wherein the status information message includes information indicating the current state of the mobile vehicle; and

computer program code for sending the status information message from the telematics unit to a call center.

19. The computer usable medium of claim 14 further comprising:

computer program code for receiving an input request from a call center at the telematics unit subsequent to initiating the readiness mode; and

computer program code for sending a response from the telematics unit to the call center based on the received input request.

20. The computer usable medium of claim 14 further comprising:

computer program code for generating a tracking record at the telematics unit responsive to initiating the readiness mode wherein the tracking record includes mobile vehicle location data updated at a predefined time interval; and

computer program code for sending the tracking record from the telematics unit to a tracking storage location.
