Dialysis catheter
First Claim
1. A catheter assembly for at least semi-permanent retention in a patient, said assembly comprising:
- an elongate catheter having a proximal end for disposition externally of the patient, a distal end for disposition in the patient and at least one lumen extending between the ends, the proximal end of the catheter being trimmable for achieving a selected length between the proximal and distal ends of the catheter;
a subcutaneous tube having opposite proximal and distal ends, the subcutaneous tube being mounted over the catheter for movement to a selected distance from the distal end of the catheter;
a fibrosing means disposed on the subcutaneous tube and selectively positionable along the catheter as the subcutaneous tube is moved to the selected distance from the distal end of the catheter, the fibrosing means promoting a growth of scar tissue for anchoring the catheter assembly in the patient;
a cap having opposite proximal and distal ends and a passage extending therebetween, proximal portions of the catheter being in the passage, a locking member retained in the passage of the cap and surrounding a portion of the catheter, the distal end of the subcutaneous tube extending distally beyond the distal end of the cap and communicating with the passage; and
a hub assembly mounted at the proximal end of the cap and urging the locking member into engagement with the catheter, the hub assembly including at least one tube for communicating respectively with the at least one lumen of the catheter, whereby the subcutaneous tube and the cap are positioned along the catheter to achieve a selected distance between the fibrosing means and the distal end of the catheter and whereby the hub assembly is mounted to the proximal end of the cap after the tube has been trimmed to a selected length.

Abstract
A catheter assembly includes catheter having proximal and distal ends and at least one lumen extending between the ends. At least one end of the catheter is formed from a material that can be trimmed to achieve a selected length for the catheter. A tubular connector is telescoped over the catheter and a hub is joined to the tubular connector. Proximal portions of the hub are configured for connection to a medical apparatus. A cuff is mounted around the tubular connector or the catheter. The cuff is formed from a material that will permit or promote the growth of scar tissue for anchoring the catheter device at least on a semi-permanent basis in a patient.

6. A catheter assembly for at least semi-permanent retention in a patient, said assembly comprising:
-
an elongate catheter having a proximal end, a distal end and at least one lumen extending between the ends;
a subcutaneous tube having a proximal end for disposition externally of the patient, a distal end for subcutaneous disposition in the patient and a lumen extending between the ends, portions of the catheter substantially adjacent the proximal end of the catheter passing through the lumen of the subcutaneous tube;
means for affixing the subcutaneous tube axially relative to the catheter; and
a fibrosing means surrounding a portion of at least one of the subcutaneous tube and the catheter for promoting a growth scar tissue for anchoring the catheter assembly in the patient. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8)

9. A catheter assembly for at least semi-permanent retention in a patient, said assembly comprising:
-
an elongate catheter having a proximal end for disposition externally of the patient, a distal end for disposition in the patient and at least two lumens extending between the ends, the proximal of the catheter being trimmable to achieve a selected length between the proximal end and distal ends of the catheter;
a subcutaneous tube having a proximal end for disposition externally of the patient, a distal end for subcutaneous disposition in the patient and a lumen extending between the ends, portions of the catheter substantially adjacent the proximal end of the catheter passing through the lumen of the subcutaneous tube;
a fibrosing means surrounding a portion of the subcutaneous tube for promoting a growth scar tissue for anchoring the catheter assembly in the patient, a selected distance between the fibrosing means and the distal end of the catheter being achieved by moving the subcutaneous tube to a selected position along the catheter;
a cap having a proximal end, a distal end and a passage extending between the ends, the subcutaneous tube extending distally beyond the distal end of the cap so that the lumen of the subcutaneous tube communicates with the passage extending between the ends of the cap;
