Abstract

Methods and systems for obtaining real time account balance information for a plurality of financial accounts maintained at one or more financial service providers utilizing a mobile device such as a mobile telephone (cellphone) or wireless connected personal digital assistant (PDA). A mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) is coupled for wireless communications with a mobile device of a user and is also coupled for electronic communication with one or more financial service providers with which the user maintains one or more accounts. The mobile device stores a cached account balance representative of the balance in each account as of a particular date. The MFTS communicates with financial service providers to obtain updated account balance information for a user'"'"'s accounts. The updated account balance information is wirelessly communicated to a user'"'"'s mobile device. In response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, the mobile device displays updated account balance information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts.

Claims

1. A method for monitoring a plurality of financial accounts maintained at one or more financial service providers using a mobile device connected for communications with a wireless network, comprising the steps of:

providing a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) coupled for wireless communications with a mobile device of a user using a mobile communication service provider (MCSP), the MFTS coupled for electronic communication with one or more financial service providers at which the user maintains one or more accounts, the MFTS including a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) database for storing user information and financial account information associated with a plurality of accounts associated with at least one financial service provider;

storing a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date;

communicating with at least one financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for at least one account of the user;

wirelessly communicating updated account balance information to a user'"'"'s mobile device; and

in response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, displaying updated account balance information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

providing a user authentication function at the user'"'"'s mobile device so as to authenticate a user to access the cached account balance information on the mobile device;

in response to user authentication at the mobile device, providing a user identifier to the MFTS indicative of user login and connection for wireless communications; and

in response to receipt of the user identifier at the MFTS, initiating communication to the one or more financial service providers so as to request updated account balance information,

whereby upon user activation and login, updated account balance information is automatically obtained for the plurality of financial accounts and provided in real time to the user'"'"'s mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the financial service provider includes one or more of a bank, a credit card company, a debit card company, a stored value card provider, a credit union, a payment services company, a financial service provider.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the account information displayed at the user'"'"'s mobile device comprises summarized account information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the account information comprises payment source information.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

providing a device connected signal from a mobile device to the MFTS upon determination that a user'"'"'s mobile device is connected and/or authenticated for wireless communications with the MFTS; and

at the MFTS, in response to receipt of the device connected signal, initiating the communication with a financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for one or more accounts of the user.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of communicating with the financial service provider includes the steps of:

receiving at the MFTS a user identifier corresponding to the user from the mobile device;

in response to the user identifier, determining at least one financial service provider identifier corresponding to a financial service provider associated with the user;

determining authentication information required to access account information in the financial service provider corresponding to the financial service provider identifier;

providing authentication information to the financial service provider; and

receiving updated accounted balance information from at least one account maintained by the at least one financial service provider.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the user identifier is used to determine a plurality of financial service providers and receive updated account balances corresponding to a plurality of different accounts at a plurality of different financial service providers.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the user identifier includes one of a mobile phone number, a MIN, a code, a name.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of wirelessly communicating updated account information to a user'"'"'s mobile device comprises receiving the updated account information from at least one financial service provider at the MFTS, and forwarding the updated account information to the user'"'"'s mobile device in a passthrough operation.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of communicating with a financial service provider comprises periodically communicating with the financial service provider at predetermined time intervals.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of communicating with a financial service provider comprises a push communication initiated by the financial service provider.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of storing cached account balances in a database in the MFTS representative of the balances in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached account balance of each of the plurality of user accounts stored in the mobile device is stored in association with an account identifier.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the account identifier is an account nickname.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the account identifier is a coded identifier.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the account identifier is also stored in the MFTS in association with authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account.

18. The method of claim 14, further comprising the steps of:

providing the account identifier from the mobile device to the MFTS;

at the MFTS, retrieving prestored authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account;

providing the authentication information to the financial service provider with other information required to obtain updated account balance information; and

in response to receipt of the updated account balance information from the financial service provider, providing the updated account balance information to the mobile device in association with the identifier.

The method of claim 14, wherein the identifier includes an account nickname, and wherein the step of displaying information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device comprises displaying the account nickname for each account in association with account balance information.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an account nickname in association with account balance information for each of the plurality of accounts.

21. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an “

as of”

date in association with the account balance information.

The method of claim 1, wherein a plurality of financial accounts is maintained at a plurality of different financial service providers, each having its own account balance information providing system, and wherein the method involves obtaining updated account balance information from each of the plurality of different financial service providers in response to a single action by the user at the user'"'"'s mobile device.

23. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

storing a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the at least one account as of a particular date;

receiving updated account balance information from the MFTS at the user mobile device; and

in response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, displaying updated account balance information corresponding to the account to the user via the mobile device.

24. A system for monitoring a plurality of financial accounts maintained at one or more financial service providers using a mobile device connected for communications with a wireless network, comprising:

a user mobile device coupled for wireless communications with a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS), the mobile device operative for wirelessly receiving account information from the MFTS and displaying account information, the wireless device operative for storing a cached account balance representative of a balance in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date;

a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) database associated with the MFTS for storing user information and information associated with at least one account associated with at least one financial service provider of a user;

a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) computer system for maintaining the MFTS database and conducting electronic communications between the MFTS and the one or more financial service providers; and

MFTS software operative on the MFTS computer system comprising program code for carrying out the computer-implemented steps of;

communicating with at least one financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for at least one account of the user; and

wirelessly communicating updated account balance information to a user'"'"'s mobile device; and

the mobile device, in response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, operative for updating the cached account balance and displaying updated account balance information to the user.

25. The system of claim 24, wherein the mobile device is further operative for:

providing a user authentication function at the user'"'"'s mobile device so as to authenticate a user to access the cached account balance information on the mobile device;

in response to user authentication at the mobile device, providing a user identifier to the MFTS indicative of user login and connection for wireless communications; and

wherein the MFTS software is further operative, in response to receipt of the user identifier at the MFTS, for initiating communication to the one or more financial service providers so as to request updated account balance information,

whereby upon user activation and login, updated account balance information is automatically obtained for the plurality of financial accounts and provided in real time to the user'"'"'s mobile device.

26. The system of claim 24, wherein the financial service provider includes one or more of a bank, a credit card company, a debit card company, a stored value card provider, a credit union, a payment services company, a financial service provider.

27. The system of claim 24, wherein the account information displayed at the user'"'"'s mobile device comprises summarized account information.

28. The system of claim 24, wherein the account information comprises payment source information.

29. The system of claim 24, wherein the mobile device is further operative for providing a device connected signal from a mobile device to the MFTS upon determination that a user'"'"'s mobile device is connected and/or authenticated for wireless communications with the MFTS;

and wherein the MFTS software is further operative, in response to receipt of the device connected signal, for initiating the communication with a financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for one or more accounts of the user.

30. The system of claim 24, wherein the MFTS software is further operative for:

receiving a user identifier corresponding to the user from the mobile device;

in response to the user identifier, determining at least one financial service provider identifier corresponding to a financial service provider associated with the user;

determining authentication information required to access account information in the financial service provider corresponding to the financial service provider identifier;

providing authentication information to the financial service provider; and

receiving updated accounted balance information from at least one account maintained by the at least one financial service provider.

31. The system of claim 30, wherein the user identifier is used to determine a plurality of financial service providers and receive updated account balances corresponding to a plurality of different accounts at a plurality of different financial service providers.

32. The system of claim 30, wherein the user identifier includes one of a mobile phone number, a MIN, a code, a name.

The system of claim 24, wherein the operation of wirelessly communicating updated account information to a user'"'"'s mobile device comprises receiving the updated account information from at least one financial service provider at the MFTS, and forwarding the updated account information to the user'"'"'s mobile device in a passthrough operation.

34. The system of claim 24, wherein the operative of communicating with a financial service provider comprises periodically communicating with the financial service provider at predetermined time intervals.

35. The system of claim 24, wherein the operation of communicating with a financial service provider comprises a push communication initiated by the financial service provider.

36. The system of claim 24, wherein the MFTS system is further operative for storing cached account balances in a database in the MFTS representative of the balances in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date.

37. The system of claim 24, wherein the cached account balance of each of the plurality of user accounts stored in the mobile device is stored in association with an account identifier.

38. The system of claim 37, wherein the account identifier is an account nickname.

39. The system of claim 37, wherein the account identifier is a coded identifier.

40. The system of claim 37, wherein the account identifier is also stored in the MFTS in association with authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account.

41. The system of claim 37, wherein the mobile device is further operative for providing the account identifier to the MFTS, and wherein the MFTS software is further operative for:

retrieving prestored authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account;

providing the authentication information to the financial service provider with other information required to obtain updated account balance information; and

in response to receipt of the updated account balance information from the financial service provider, providing the updated account balance information to the mobile device in association with the identifier.

The system of claim 37, wherein the identifier includes an account nickname, and wherein the operation of displaying information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device comprises displaying the account nickname for each account in association with account balance information.

43. The system of claim 24, wherein operation of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an account nickname in association with account balance information for each of the plurality of accounts.

44. The system of claim 24, wherein the step of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an “

as of”

date in association with the account balance information.

The system of claim 24, wherein a plurality of financial accounts is maintained at a plurality of different financial service providers, each having its own account balance information providing system, and wherein the method involves obtaining updated account balance information from each of the plurality of different financial service providers in response to a single action by the user at the user'"'"'s mobile device.

46. The device of claim 24, wherein the user mobile device stores a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the at least one account as of a particular date;

wherein the mobile device receives updated account balance information for the account; and

wherein in response to receipt of updated account balance information, the mobile device displays updated account balance information corresponding to the account to the user.

47. A method for monitoring a plurality of financial accounts maintained at one or more financial service providers using a mobile device connected for communications with a wireless network, comprising the steps of:

storing a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date;

wirelessly receiving updated account balance information from a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS), the MFTS coupled for electronic communication with one or more financial service providers at which the user maintains one or more accounts and operative for obtaining updated account balance information; and

displaying updated account balance information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device.

48. The method of claim 47, further comprising the steps of:

providing a user authentication function at the user'"'"'s mobile device so as to authenticate a user to access the cached account balance information on the mobile device; and

in response to user authentication at the mobile device, providing a user identifier to the MFTS indicative of user login and connection for wireless communications.

49. The method of claim 48, wherein the MFTS, in response to receipt of the user identifier at the MFTS, initiates communication to the one or more financial service providers so as to request updated account balance information,

whereby upon user activation and login, updated account balance information is automatically obtained for the plurality of financial accounts and provided in real time to the user'"'"'s mobile device.

50. The method of claim 47, wherein the financial service provider includes one or more of a bank, a credit card company, a debit card company, a stored value card provider, a credit union, a payment services company, a financial service provider.

51. The method of claim 47, wherein the account information displayed at the user'"'"'s mobile device comprises summarized account information.

52. The method of claim 47, wherein the account information comprises payment source information.

53. The method of claim 47, further comprising the steps of providing a device connected signal from a mobile device to the MFTS upon determination that a user'"'"'s mobile device is connected and/or authenticated for wireless communications with the MFTS;

and

wherein the MFTS, in response to receipt of the device connected signal, initiates the communication with a financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for one or more accounts of the user.

54. The method of claim 47, further comprising the step of providing a user identifier corresponding to the user to the MFTS,

whereby in response to the user identifier, the MFTS determines at least one financial service provider identifier corresponding to a financial service provider associated with the user;

determines authentication information required to access account information in the financial service provider corresponding to the financial service provider identifier;

provides authentication information to the financial service provider; and

receives updated accounted balance information from at least one account maintained by the at least one financial service provider.

55. The method of claim 54, wherein the user identifier is used to determine a plurality of financial service providers and receive updated account balances corresponding to a plurality of different accounts at a plurality of different financial service providers.

56. The method of claim 54, wherein the user identifier includes one of a mobile phone number, a MIN, a code, a name.

57. The method of claim 47, wherein the cached account balance of each of the plurality of user accounts stored in the mobile device is stored in association with an account identifier.

58. The method of claim 57, wherein the account identifier is an account nickname.

59. The method of claim 57, wherein the account identifier is a coded identifier.

60. The method of claim 57, wherein the account identifier is also stored in the MFTS in association with authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account.

61. The method of claim 57, further comprising the steps of:

providing the account identifier from the mobile device to the MFTS, whereby the MFTS, in response to receipt of the account identifier, is operative for retrieving prestored authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account;

providing the authentication information to the financial service provider with other information required to obtain updated account balance information; and

in response to receipt of the updated account balance information from the financial service provider, providing the updated account balance information to the mobile device in association with the identifier.

The method of claim 57, wherein the identifier includes an account nickname, and wherein the step of displaying information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device comprises displaying the account nickname for each account in association with account balance information.

63. The method of claim 47, wherein the step of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an account nickname in association with account balance information for each of the plurality of accounts.

64. The method of claim 47, wherein the step of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an “

as of”

date in association with the account balance information.

The method of claim 47, wherein a plurality of financial accounts is maintained at a plurality of different financial service providers, each having its own account balance information providing system, and wherein the method involves obtaining updated account balance information from each of the plurality of different financial service providers in response to a single action by the user at the user'"'"'s mobile device.

66. The method of claim 47, further comprising the steps of:

storing a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the at least one account as of a particular date;

receiving updated account balance information from the MFTS at the user mobile device; and

in response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, displaying updated account balance information corresponding to the account to the user via the mobile device.

67. A mobile device operative for monitoring a plurality of financial accounts maintained at one or more financial service providers via wireless communications, comprising:

a mobile device connected for wireless communications via a mobile communication service provider to a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS), the mobile device including a display, user input means, a processor, and a memory; and

mobile device software operative on the mobile device processor comprising program code for carrying out the computer-implemented steps of;

storing a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date;

wirelessly receiving updated account balance information from a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS), the MFTS coupled for electronic communication with one or more financial service providers at which the user maintains one or more accounts and operative for obtaining updated account balance information; and

displaying updated account balance information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device.

68. The device of claim 67, wherein the mobile device software is further operative for:

providing a user authentication function at the user'"'"'s mobile device so as to authenticate a user to access the cached account balance information on the mobile device;

in response to user authentication at the mobile device, providing a user identifier to the MFTS indicative of user login and connection for wireless communications.

69. The device of claim 68, wherein the MFTS, in response to receipt of the user identifier at the MFTS, initiates communication to the one or more financial service providers so as to request updated account balance information,

whereby upon user activation and login, updated account balance information is automatically obtained for the plurality of financial accounts and provided in real time to the user'"'"'s mobile device.

70. The device of claim 67, wherein the financial service provider includes one or more of a bank, a credit card company, a debit card company, a stored value card provider, a credit union, a payment services company, a financial service provider.

71. The device of claim 67, wherein the account information displayed at the user'"'"'s mobile device comprises summarized account information.

72. The device of claim 67, wherein the account information comprises payment source information.

73. The device of claim 67, wherein the mobile device software is further operative for providing a device connected signal from the mobile device to the MFTS upon determination that a user'"'"'s mobile device is connected and/or authenticated for wireless communications with the MFTS;

and

wherein the MFTS, in response to receipt of the device connected signal, initiates the communication with a financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for one or more accounts of the user.

74. The device of claim 67, wherein the mobile device software is further operative for providing a user identifier corresponding to the user to the MFTS,

whereby in response to the user identifier, the MFTS determines at least one financial service provider identifier corresponding to a financial service provider associated with the user;

determines authentication information required to access account information in the financial service provider corresponding to the financial service provider identifier;

provides authentication information to the financial service provider; and

receives updated accounted balance information from at least one account maintained by the at least one financial service provider.

75. The device of claim 74, wherein the user identifier is used to determine a plurality of financial service providers and receive updated account balances corresponding to a plurality of different accounts at a plurality of different financial service providers.

76. The device of claim 74, wherein the user identifier includes one of a mobile phone number, a MIN, a code, a name.

77. The device of claim 67, wherein the cached account balance of each of the plurality of user accounts stored in the mobile device is stored in association with an account identifier.

78. The device of claim 77, wherein the account identifier is an account nickname.

79. The device of claim 77, wherein the account identifier is a coded identifier.

80. The device of claim 77, wherein the account identifier is also stored in the MFTS in association with authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account.

81. The device of claim 77, wherein the mobile device software is further operative for:

providing the account identifier from the mobile device to the MFTS, whereby the MFTS, in response to receipt of the account identifier, is operative for retrieving prestored authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account;

providing the authentication information to the financial service provider with other information required to obtain updated account balance information; and

in response to receipt of the updated account balance information from the financial service provider, providing the updated account balance information to the mobile device in association with the identifier.

The device of claim 77, wherein the identifier includes an account nickname, and wherein the operation of displaying information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device comprises displaying the account nickname for each account in association with account balance information.

83. The device of claim 67, wherein the operation of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an account nickname in association with account balance information for each of the plurality of accounts.

84. The device of claim 67, wherein the operation of displaying account balance information via the mobile device comprises displaying an “

as of”

date in association with the account balance information.

The device of claim 67, wherein a plurality of financial accounts is maintained at a plurality of different financial service providers, each having its own account balance information providing system, and wherein the device obtains updated account balance information from each of the plurality of different financial service providers in response to a single action by the user at the user'"'"'s mobile device.

86. The device of claim 67, wherein the user mobile device stores a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the at least one account as of a particular date;

wherein the mobile device receives updated account balance information for the account; and

wherein in response to receipt of updated account balance information, the mobile device displays updated account balance information corresponding to the account to the user.

A method for providing account balance information to a mobile device user who maintains a plurality of financial accounts at one or more financial service providers, the mobile device connected for communications with a wireless network and includes a cached account balance for one or more accounts at one or more financial service providers, comprising the steps of:

providing a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) coupled for wireless communications with a mobile device of a user using a mobile communication service provider (MCSP), the MFTS coupled for electronic communication with one or more financial service providers at which the user maintains one or more accounts, the MFTS including a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) database for storing user information and financial account information associated with a plurality of accounts associated with at least one financial service provider;

communicating with at least one financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for at least one account of the user; and

wirelessly communicating updated account balance information to a user'"'"'s mobile device,

whereby in response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, the user'"'"'s mobile device displays updated account balance information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user.

The method of claim 87, wherein the user mobile device includes a user authentication function so as to authenticate a user to access the cached account balance information on the mobile device, and in response to user authentication at the mobile device, provides a user identifier to the MFTS indicative of user login and connection for wireless communications;

and

further comprising the step of, in response to receipt of the user identifier, initiating communication to the one or more financial service providers so as to request updated account balance information,

whereby upon user activation and login, updated account balance information is automatically obtained for the plurality of financial accounts and provided in real time to the user'"'"'s mobile device.

89. The method of claim 87, wherein the financial service provider includes one or more of a bank, a credit card company, a debit card company, a stored value card provider, a credit union, a payment services company, a financial service provider.

90. The method of claim 87, wherein the account information displayed at the user'"'"'s mobile device comprises summarized account information.

91. The method of claim 87, wherein the account information comprises payment source information.

92. The method of claim 87, wherein the mobile device provides a device connected signal to the MFTS upon determination that a user'"'"'s mobile device is connected and/or authenticated for wireless communications with the MFTS;

and

further comprising the step of, in response to receipt of the device connected signal, initiating the communication with a financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for one or more accounts of the user.

93. The method of claim 87, wherein the step of communicating with the financial service provider includes the steps of:

receiving at the MFTS a user identifier corresponding to the user from the mobile device;

in response to the user identifier, determining at least one financial service provider identifier corresponding to a financial service provider associated with the user;

determining authentication information required to access account information in the financial service provider corresponding to the financial service provider identifier;

providing authentication information to the financial service provider; and

receiving updated accounted balance information from at least one account maintained by the at least one financial service provider.

94. The method of claim 93, wherein the user identifier is used to determine a plurality of financial service providers and receive updated account balances corresponding to a plurality of different accounts at a plurality of different financial service providers.

95. The method of claim 93, wherein the user identifier includes one of a mobile phone number, a MIN, a code, a name.

96. The method of claim 87, wherein the step of wirelessly communicating updated account information to a user'"'"'s mobile device comprises receiving the updated account information from at least one financial service provider at the MFTS, and forwarding the updated account information to the user'"'"'s mobile device in a passthrough operation.

97. The method of claim 87, wherein the step of communicating with a financial service provider comprises periodically communicating with the financial service provider at predetermined time intervals.

98. The method of claim 87, wherein the step of communicating with a financial service provider comprises a push communication initiated by the financial service provider.

99. The method of claim 87, further comprising the step of storing cached account balances in a database in the MFTS representative of the balances in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date.

100. The method of claim 87, wherein the cached account balance of each of the plurality of user accounts stored in the mobile device is stored in association with an account identifier.

101. The method of claim 100, wherein the account identifier is an account nickname.

102. The method of claim 100, wherein the account identifier is a coded identifier.

103. The method of claim 100, wherein the account identifier is also stored in the MFTS in association with authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account.

104. The method of claim 100, wherein the mobile device provides the account identifier from the mobile device to the MFTS;

and further comprising the steps of;

retrieving prestored authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account;

providing the authentication information to the financial service provider with other information required to obtain updated account balance information; and

in response to receipt of the updated account balance information from the financial service provider, providing the updated account balance information to the mobile device in association with the identifier.

The method of claim 100, wherein the identifier includes an account nickname, and wherein the step of displaying information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device comprises displaying the account nickname for each account in association with account balance information.

The method of claim 87, wherein a plurality of financial accounts is maintained at a plurality of different financial service providers, each having its own account balance information providing system, and wherein the method involves obtaining updated account balance information from each of the plurality of different financial service providers in response to a single action by the user at the user'"'"'s mobile device.

107. The method of claim 87, further comprising the steps of:

storing a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the at least one account as of a particular date;

receiving updated account balance information from the MFTS at the user mobile device; and

in response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, displaying updated account balance information corresponding to the account to the user via the mobile device.

108. A system for providing account balance information to a mobile device user who maintains a plurality of financial accounts at one or more financial service providers, the mobile device connected for communications with a wireless network and including a cached account balance for one or more accounts at one or more financial service providers, comprising:

a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) coupled for wireless communications with one or more mobile devices of a user using a mobile communication service provider (MCSP), the MFTS coupled for electronic communications with one or more financial service providers with whom a user maintains one or more financial accounts, the MFTS including a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) database for storing user information, the MFTS including MFTS software comprising program code for carrying out the computer-implemented steps of;

communicating with at least one financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for at least one account of the user; and

wirelessly communicating updated account balance information to a user'"'"'s mobile device,

whereby in response to receipt of updated account balance information from the MFTS, the user'"'"'s mobile device displays updated account balance information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user.

109. The system of claim 108, wherein the user mobile device includes a user authentication function so as to authenticate a user to access the cached account balance information on the mobile device, and in response to user authentication at the mobile device, provides a user identifier to the MFTS indicative of user login and connection for wireless communications;

and

wherein the MFTS software is further operative, in response to receipt of the user identifier, for initiating communication to the one or more financial service providers so as to request updated account balance information,

whereby upon user activation and login, updated account balance information is automatically obtained for the plurality of financial accounts and provided in real time to the user'"'"'s mobile device.

110. The system of claim 108, wherein the financial service provider includes one or more of a bank, a credit card company, a debit card company, a stored value card provider, a credit union, a payment services company, a financial service provider.

111. The system of claim 108, wherein the account information displayed at the user'"'"'s mobile device comprises summarized account information.

112. The system of claim 108, wherein the account information comprises payment source information.

113. The system of claim 108, wherein the mobile device provides a device connected signal to the MFTS upon determination that a user'"'"'s mobile device is connected and/or authenticated for wireless communications with the MFTS;

and

wherein the MFTS software is further operative, in response to receipt of the device connected signal, for initiating the communication with a financial service provider to obtain updated account balance information for one or more accounts of the user.

114. The system of claim 108, wherein the operation of communicating with the financial service provider includes the steps of:

receiving at the MFTS a user identifier corresponding to the user from the mobile device;

in response to the user identifier, determining at least one financial service provider identifier corresponding to a financial service provider associated with the user;

determining authentication information required to access account information in the financial service provider corresponding to the financial service provider identifier;

providing authentication information to the financial service provider; and

receiving updated accounted balance information from at least one account maintained by the at least one financial service provider.

115. The system of claim 114, wherein the user identifier is used to determine a plurality of financial service providers and receive updated account balances corresponding to a plurality of different accounts at a plurality of different financial service providers.

116. The system of claim 114, wherein the user identifier includes one of a mobile phone number, a MIN, a code, a name.

The system of claim 108, wherein the operation of wirelessly communicating updated account information to a user'"'"'s mobile device comprises receiving the updated account information from at least one financial service provider at the MFTS, and forwarding the updated account information to the user'"'"'s mobile device in a passthrough operation.

118. The system of claim 108, wherein the operation of communicating with a financial service provider comprises periodically communicating with the financial service provider at predetermined time intervals.

119. The system of claim 108, wherein the operation of communicating with a financial service provider comprises a push communication initiated by the financial service provider.

120. The system of claim 108, wherein the MFTS software is further operative for storing cached account balances in a database in the MFTS representative of the balances in the plurality of user accounts as of a particular date.

121. The system of claim 108, wherein the cached account balance of each of the plurality of user accounts stored in the mobile device is stored in association with an account identifier.

122. The system of claim 121, wherein the account identifier is an account nickname.

123. The system of claim 121, wherein the account identifier is a coded identifier.

124. The system of claim 121, wherein the account identifier is also stored in the MFTS in association with authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account.

125. The system of claim 121, wherein the mobile device provides the account identifier from the mobile device to the MFTS;

and wherein the MFTS software is further operative for;

retrieving prestored authentication information required by a financial service provider associated with each account in order to access information and/or make transaction with respect to the account;

providing the authentication information to the financial service provider with other information required to obtain updated account balance information; and

in response to receipt of the updated account balance information from the financial service provider, providing the updated account balance information to the mobile device in association with the identifier.

The system of claim 121, wherein the identifier includes an account nickname, and wherein the step of displaying information corresponding to the plurality of user accounts to the user via the mobile device comprises displaying the account nickname for each account in association with account balance information.

The system of claim 108, wherein a plurality of financial accounts is maintained at a plurality of different financial service providers, each having its own account balance information providing system, and wherein the method involves obtaining updated account balance information from each of the plurality of different financial service providers in response to a single action by the user at the user'"'"'s mobile device.

128. The system of claim 108, wherein the user mobile device stores a cached account balance in the mobile device representative of the balance in the at least one account as of a particular date;

wherein the mobile device receives updated account balance information for the account; and

wherein in response to receipt of updated account balance information, the user mobile device displays updated account balance information corresponding to the account to the user.
