Abstract

A computer implemented method that includes receiving a cohort. The cohort comprises first data regarding a set of patients and second data comprising a relationship of the first data to at least one additional datum existing in at least one database. A numerical risk assessment is associated with the cohort. The computer implemented method further includes establishing a monetary value for the cohort, wherein the monetary value is based at least on the numerical risk assessment.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method comprising:

receiving a cohort, wherein the cohort comprises first data regarding a set of patients and second data comprising a relationship of the first data to at least one additional datum existing in at least one database, and further wherein a numerical risk assessment is associated with the cohort; and

establishing a monetary value for the cohort, wherein the monetary value is based at least on the numerical risk assessment.

2. The computer implemented method of claim 1 further comprising:

conducting a financial transaction based on the cohort.

3. The computer implemented method of claim 1 wherein the set of patients comprises patients with a first medical condition, wherein the cohort comprises additional data representing that the set of patients have the first medical condition, and wherein the numerical risk assessment comprises a numerical estimation of a cost of treating the first medical condition.

4. The computer implemented method of claim 3 wherein the cohort and numerical risk assessment together are referred-to as a healthcare cohort, and wherein the computer implemented method further comprises:

conducting a financial transaction based on the healthcare cohort.

5. The computer implemented method of claim 4 wherein the financial transaction comprises a promise to indemnify a first business entity for actual costs incurred as a result of providing the plurality of patients with medical care associated with the first medical condition.

6. The computer implemented method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a second cohort, wherein the second cohort comprises third data regarding a second set of patients and fourth data comprising a relationship of the third data to at least one further additional datum existing in at least one database, and further wherein a second numerical risk assessment is associated with the second cohort;

establishing a second monetary value for the second cohort, wherein the second monetary value is based at least on the second numerical risk assessment; and

trading the cohort for the second cohort.

The computer implemented method of claim 6 wherein the set of patients comprises a first plurality of patients with a first medical condition, wherein the cohort comprises additional data representing that first plurality of patients have the first medical condition, wherein the numerical risk assessment comprises a numerical estimation of a cost of treating the first medical condition, wherein the second set of patients comprises a second plurality of patients with a second medical condition, wherein the second cohort comprises second additional data representing that the second plurality have the second medical condition, wherein the second numerical risk assessment comprises a second numerical estimation of a second cost of treating the second medical condition, wherein a first business entity has a first responsibility for indemnifying first actual costs associated with treating the first plurality of patients, and wherein a second business entity has a second responsibility for indemnifying second actual costs associated with treating the second plurality of patients, and wherein the computer implemented method further comprises:

conducting a financial transaction between the first business entity and the second business entity, wherein the financial transaction includes trading the first responsibility and the second responsibility, and wherein a first value of the first responsibility is based on the numerical risk and a second value of the second responsibility is based on the second numerical risk.

8. The computer implemented method of claim 7 wherein the financial transaction further comprises money paid from the first business entity to the second business entity.

9. The computer implemented method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating the cohort.

10. The computer implemented method of claim 9 wherein generating the cohort comprises:

receiving the first data;

establishing at least one relationship among the first data and the at least one additional datum, wherein by establishing the second data is generated;

associating the second data with the first data; and

storing the first data, the second data, and the at least one additional datum as an associated set.

11. The computer implemented method of claim 1 wherein the set of patients is a single patient.

12. The computer implemented method of claim 11 wherein the cohort comprises additional data representing that the single patient has a first medical condition, wherein the numerical risk assessment comprises a numerical estimation of a cost of treating the first medical condition, and wherein the computer implemented method further comprises:

receiving a second cohort, wherein the second cohort comprises third data regarding the single patient and fourth data comprising a relationship of the third data to at least one further additional datum existing in at least one database, wherein a second numerical risk assessment is associated with the second cohort, wherein the second cohort further comprises second additional data representing that the single patient has a second medical condition, wherein the second numerical risk assessment comprises a second numerical estimation of a second cost of treating the second medical condition; and

conducting a trade related to the cohort and the second cohort.

13. The computer implemented method of claim 12 further comprising:

establishing a first monetary value for the cohort, wherein the first monetary value is based at least on the first numerical risk assessment; and

establishing a second monetary value for the second cohort, wherein the second monetary value is based at least on the second numerical risk assessment; and

conducting a financial transaction involving the trade.

14. The computer implemented method of claim 13 wherein a first business entity has a first responsibility for indemnifying first actual costs associated with treating the first medical condition, and wherein conducting the financial transaction further comprises:

paying a second business entity to assume the first responsibility, wherein payment is based on the first monetary value.

15. The computer implemented method of claim 13 wherein a first business entity has a first responsibility for indemnifying first actual costs associated with treating the first medical condition, wherein a second business entity has a second responsibility for indemnifying second actual costs associated with treating the second medical condition, and wherein conducting the financial transaction further comprises:

trading the first responsibility for the second responsibility.

16. The computer implemented method of claim 2 wherein the financial transaction comprises using the numerical risk assessment to set a wager regarding an aspect of the cohort.

17. A computer program product comprising:

a computer readable medium storing computer usable program code for carrying out a computer implemented method, the computer usable program code comprising;

instructions for receiving a cohort, wherein the cohort comprises first data regarding a set of patients and second data comprising a relationship of the first data to at least one additional datum existing in at least one database, and further wherein a numerical risk assessment is associated with the cohort; and

instructions for establishing a monetary value for the cohort, wherein the monetary value is based at least on the numerical risk assessment.

18. The computer program product of claim 17 further comprising:

Instructions for conducting a financial transaction based on the cohort.

19. A data processing system comprising:

a bus;

a processor connected to the bus;

a memory connected to the bus, wherein the memory contains a set of instructions, and wherein the processor is capable of executing the set of instructions to;

receive a cohort, wherein the cohort comprises first data regarding a set of patients and second data comprising a relationship of the first data to at least one additional datum existing in at least one database, and further wherein a numerical risk assessment is associated with the cohort; and

establish a monetary value for the cohort, wherein the monetary value is based at least on the numerical risk assessment.

20. The data processing system of claim 19 wherein the processor is further capable of executing the set of instructions to:

conduct a financial transaction based on the cohort.
