AMBULATORY PUMP WITH INTELLIGENT FLOW CONTROL
First Claim
1. An ambulatory medical fluid delivery system comprising:
- a fluid flow path for communicating between a source and a patient;
a reusable controller operable to control fluid flow in the fluid flow path, such controller including a module interface station; and
a disposable fluid flow delivery set including a flow control module adapted to be removably received by the module interface station of the reusable controller, such flow control module including a flow valve which is operably associated with the fluid flow path, such valve being operably controlled by the reusable controller in response to sensed flow rates of fluid flow in such fluid flow path.

Abstract
The present invention includes an ambulatory medical fluid delivery system, which may comprise a fluid flow path for communicating between a source and a patient. The system may also comprise a reusable controller, which may be operable to control fluid flow in the path and include a module interface station, and a disposable fluid flow delivery set, which may include a flow control module adapted to be removably received by the module interface station. Such flow control module may include a flow valve which is operably associated with the path. Such valve may be operably controlled by the reusable controller in response to sensed flow rates of fluid flow in such path. The present invention may alternatively include an ambulatory reusable controller that is provided for use with a disposable medical fluid flow delivery set. The present invention may further alternatively include a differential pressure sensing device.

10. An ambulatory reusable controller for use with a disposable medical fluid flow delivery set including a fluid flow path and a flow control module which includes a flow valve associated with the fluid flow path, the reusable controller comprising:
-
a module interface station for removably receiving the flow control module; and a microprocessor operably associated with the module interface station to control movement of the valve between a first position, which allows fluid flow through the path, and a second position, which limits fluid flow through the path;
such reusable controller being operable to control fluid flow in the fluid flow path by controlling movement of the valve in response to a sensed actual flow rate in the fluid flow path. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14)

15. A differential pressure sensing device comprising:
-
a housing; a pressure sensor having opposed sides and carried within the housing; a flow restrictor carried within the housing; a flow path defined through the housing, the flow restrictor defining a reduced flow area of the flow path; one side of the pressure sensor being in pressure communication with the flow path at a first position; the other side of the pressure sensor being in pressure communication with the flow path at a second position spaced from the first position; and the flow restrictor being disposed in the fluid path between the first and second positions, wherein the pressure sensor can sense the pressure difference in the flow path across the flow restrictor. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
