Abstract

Bezel gestures for touch displays are described. In at least some embodiments, the bezel of a device is used to extend functionality that is accessible through the use of so-called bezel gestures. In at least some embodiments, off-screen motion can be used, by virtue of the bezel, to create screen input through a bezel gesture. Bezel gestures can include single-finger bezel gestures, multiple-finger/same-hand bezel gestures, and/or multiple-finger, different-hand bezel gestures.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving an on-screen input associated with an object;

receiving a bezel gesture input associated with the object;

ascertaining a functionality associated with the combination of both inputs; and

accessing the associated functionality.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the on-screen input comprises a single-finger input.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the on-screen input comprises a multiple-finger input.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the bezel gesture input comprises a single-finger input.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the bezel gesture input comprises a multiple-finger input.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the functionality is associated with a page manipulation.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the functionality is associated with a tear operation relative to a page.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the functionality is associated with a tear operation relative to a page, and wherein the tear operation depends on a direction of the tear.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the functionality is associated with a partial tear operation relative to a portion of the page.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the functionality is associated with a partial tear operation relative to a portion of the page, wherein the bezel gesture input comprises a single-finger input.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the functionality is associated with a complete tear operation relative to a page.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the functionality is associated with a complete tear operation relative to a page, and wherein the bezel gesture input comprises a multiple-finger input.

13. One or more computer readable media comprising computer executable instructions which, when executed, implement a method comprising:

receiving an on-screen input associated with a page;

receiving a bezel gesture input associated with the page;

ascertaining a tear functionality associated with the combination of both inputs; and

accessing the associated tear functionality.

14. The one or more computer readable media of claim 13, wherein the on-screen input comprises a single-finger input.

15. The one or more computer readable media of claim 13, wherein the on-screen input comprises a multiple-finger input.

16. The one or more computer readable media of claim 13, wherein the bezel gesture input comprises a single-finger input.

17. The one or more computer readable media of claim 13, wherein the bezel gesture input comprises a multiple-finger input.

18. The one or more computer readable media of claim 13, wherein tear functionality depends on a direction of the bezel gesture input.

19. The one or more computer readable media of claim 13, wherein the tear functionality is a partial tear.

20. The one or more computer readable media of claim 13, wherein the tear functionality comprises a complete tear operation relative to the page.
