Abstract

A pump system can include a pump device and a controller device removably attachable to the pump device. The controller device can be reusable, and one or more pump devices can be disconnected and reconnected to the controller device. As such, some pump usage data can be conveniently stored in the pump device itself. In such circumstances, the controller device can receive data related to the pump'"'"'s history or other usage when the pump device is attached to the controller.

Claims

1. A wearable infusion pump system comprising:

a pump device defining a space to receive a medicine source, the pump device including a drive system to dispense medicine from the pump device when the medicine source is received in the space, the pump device including a battery, the pump device including a memory device storing data indicative of a charge level of the battery; and

a controller device removably attachable to the pump device, wherein when the controller device is removably attached to the pump device, the controller device activates the drive system to dispense the medicine source and receives the data indicative of the charge level of the battery.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the battery is a non-rechargeable battery.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the data regarding the charge level of the battery indicates whether the battery is in a depleted or non-depleted state.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the controller device includes a rechargeable energy source that is different from the battery of the pump device.

5. The system of claim 4, when the data stored in the memory device housed in the pump device regarding the charge level of the battery indicates that the battery is in the depleted state, the controller device ceases recharging of the rechargeable energy source housed within the controller device from the battery housed in the pump device.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the controller device includes a user interface comprising a display device.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the pump device includes at least one structure that hinders reuse of the pump device after the medicine source is exhausted such that the pump device is non-reusable and disposable.

The system of claim 1, wherein the controller device comprises a controller housing and first electrical contacts exposed along an exterior of the controller housing, wherein the pump device comprises a pump housing and second electrical contacts exposed along an exterior of the pump housing, and wherein when the controller device is removably attached to the pump device, the first electrical contacts and the second electrical contacts provide an electrical connection between the controller device and the pump device.

The system of claim 8, wherein the controller device comprises control circuitry positioned in the controller housing, the control circuitry being in electrical communication with the memory device housed in the pump device via the electrical connection when the controller device is removably attached to the pump device.

The system of claim 1, wherein the controller device comprises first electrical contacts exposed along an exterior of the controller housing, wherein the pump device comprises second electrical contacts exposed along an exterior of the pump housing, and wherein when the controller device is removably attached to the pump device, the first electrical contacts and the second electrical contacts provide an electrical connection between the controller device and the pump device.

The system of claim 17, wherein the controller device comprises control circuitry positioned in the controller housing, the control circuitry being in electrical communication with the memory device housed in the pump device via the electrical connection when the controller device is removably attached to the pump device.

10. A wearable infusion pump system comprising:

a pump device including a pump housing structure that defines a space to receive a medicine source and a cap device attachable to the pump housing structure such that a penetration member of the cap device extends into an interior of the space to penetrate a septum with the medicine source is received in the space, the pump device including a drive system to dispense medicine from the pump device when the medicine source is received in the space, the pump device including a battery positioned in the pump housing, and the pump device including a memory device storing data indicative of a charge level of the battery and positioned in the pump housing;

a controller device removably attachable to the pump device and including a user interface display and user-selectable inputs for programming the controller device, the controller device including an energy storage source, wherein when the controller device is removably attached to the pump device, the controller device activates the drive system to dispense the medicine source and receives the data indicative of the charge level of the battery.

The system of claim 10, wherein the controller device comprises control circuitry positioned in the controller housing, the control circuitry being in electrical communication with the memory device positioned in the pump housing so as to access the data of the memory device when the controller device is removably attached to the pump device.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the battery housed in the pump housing is a non-rechargeable battery.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the data regarding the charge level of the battery indicates whether the battery is in a depleted or non-depleted state.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the energy storage source of the controller device is a rechargeable energy source that is different from the battery positioned in the pump housing.

15. The system of claim 14, when the data stored in the memory device regarding the charge level of the battery indicates that the battery is in the depleted state, the controller device ceases recharging of the rechargeable energy source positioned in the controller housing from the battery positioned in the pump housing.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein the pump device includes at least one structure that hinders reuse of the pump device after the medicine source is exhausted such that the pump device is non-reusable and disposable.
