Abstract

A system and methods are provided for remotely recovering and purging data from a wireless device in a communications network. The system includes a wireless device capable of executing a data recovery/purge application program for receiving a message from a communications device in the network. The application program retrieves the data in the wireless device, purges the data from the wireless device, and sends a return message, including the data retrieved from the wireless device, to the communications device.

Claims

1. A system for remote recovery of data, the system comprising:

a wireless device on a network, the wireless device including a logic for enabling the wireless device to perform operations including;

receiving a recovery request from a communication device via the network, the communication device being authorized to transmit the recovery request by a voice node on the network, the voice node in communication with a database storing a customer profile associated with the wireless device, and

in response to the request, executing a data recovery application on the wireless device, the data recovery application transmitting data stored on the wireless device to a data recovery address stored on the customer profile.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a switch on the network for connecting the communication device with the network.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the switch is on a public switched telephone network.

4. The system of claim 2, wherein the switch is a mobile switching center.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the communication device is one of a standard wireline telephone set and a wireless telephone.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising a second network in communication with the network, wherein the second network enables communication between the wireless device and the voice node.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the second network is one or more of a local area network and a wide area network.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the recovery request contains a request to purge saved data from the wireless device.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the recovery request includes a return address for a confirmation of a data purge.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the voice node is a server with interactive voice response functionality.

11. A wireless device for recovering data upon the wireless device being lost or stolen, the wireless device comprising:

a processor;

a computer-readable medium in communication with the processor; and

logic stored on the computer-readable medium for enabling the processor to perform operations including;

receiving a recovery request from a communication device via the network, the communication device being authorized to transmit the recovery request by a voice node on the network, the voice node in communication with a database storing a customer profile associated with the wireless device, and

in response to the request, executing a data recovery application on the wireless device, the data recovery application transmitting data stored on the wireless device to a data recovery address stored on the customer profile.

12. The wireless device of claim 11, wherein the recovery request includes an email message.

13. The wireless device of claim 11, wherein the recovery request includes an identification of the data to be transmitted to the data recovery address.

14. The wireless device of claim 13, wherein the logic further enables the processor to perform operations including parsing the recovery request to retrieve the identification of the data to be transmitted to the data recovery address.

15. The wireless device of claim 14, wherein the logic further enables the processor to perform operations including searching a storage on the wireless device for the identified data.

16. The wireless device of claim 15, wherein the logic further enables the processor to perform operations including determining that the identified data is not stored on the storage, and waiting for a second recover request.

17. The wireless device of claim 15, wherein the logic further enables the processor to perform operations including transmitting an alert to the communication device, the alert including a message that the identified data is not stored on the storage.

18. The wireless device of claim 13, wherein the logic further enables the processor to perform operations including generating a data file including the data identified in the recovery request, and transmitting the data file to the recovery address.

19. The wireless device of claim 11, wherein the logic further enables the processor to perform operations including automatically executing the data recovery application in response to an incoming message, the data recovery application for determining that the message includes a recovery request.

20. A wireless device for recovering data upon the wireless device being lost or stolen, the wireless device comprising:

a processor;

a computer-readable medium in communication with the processor; and

logic stored on the computer-readable medium for enabling the processor to perform operations including;

receiving a recovery request from a communication device via the network, the communication device being authorized to transmit the recovery request by a voice node on the network, the voice node in communication with a database storing a customer profile associated with the wireless device, and

in response to the request, executing a data recovery application on the wireless device, the data recovery application transmitting data stored on the wireless device to a data recovery address stored on the customer profile.
