Abstract

A method includes displaying, on a display of an electronic device, an information element associated with an application and detecting a first gesture. In response to detecting the first gesture, at least a first part of a first image is displayed, including information associated with the application, while reducing display of the information element.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

displaying, on a display of an electronic device, an email message in a window;

detecting a gesture requesting display of a document associated with the email message;

in response to detecting the gesture, shifting display of the document into the window while reducing display of the email message in the window along with movement of the gesture.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein display of the document progressively increases in size as the gesture continues.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein display of the document progressively decreases in size when the gesture changes direction.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein display area of the document progressively increases in size or decreases in size along with movement of the gesture.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying the document discontinues when the gesture is no longer detected.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying the document in the window and discontinuing displaying the email message in the window when the gesture includes a characteristic that indicates opening of the document.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising, when the email message comprises unsaved changes, saving the changes in a saved email message when the gesture meets a threshold.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising, prior to displaying the document throughout the window, discontinuing display of the document in response to detecting a characteristic of the gesture.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising, prior to shifting display of the document, displaying the document in the window.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the document is an attachment to the email message.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the document is a webpage launched from a link in the email message.

12. A method comprising:

displaying, on a display of an electronic device, an email message in a window;

in the window, displaying a document associated with the email message and discontinuing displaying the email message;

detecting a gesture;

in response to detecting the gesture, shifting display of the email message into the window while reducing display of the document in the window along with movement of the gesture.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein display of the email message progressively increases in size as the gesture continues.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein display of the email message progressively decreases in size when the gesture changes direction.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein display area of the email message progressively increases in size or decreases in size along with movement of the gesture.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein displaying the email message discontinues when the gesture is no longer detected.

17. The method of claim 12, further comprising displaying the email message in the window and discontinuing displaying the document in the window when the gesture includes a characteristic that indicates opening of the email message.

18. The method of claim 12, further comprising, when the email message comprises unsaved changes, saving the changes in a saved email message when the gesture meets a threshold.

19. The method of claim 12, further comprising, prior to displaying the email message throughout the window, discontinuing display of the email message in response to detecting a characteristic of the gesture.

20. The method of claim 12, wherein the document is an attachment to the email message.

21. The method of claim 12, wherein the document is a webpage launched from a link in the email message.

22. A method comprising:

displaying, on a display of an electronic device, an email message in a window;

in the window, displaying a document associated with the email message and discontinuing displaying the email message;

in the window, redisplaying the email message and discontinuing display of the document;

detecting a gesture requesting display of the document;

in response to detecting the gesture;

shifting display of the document into the window while reducing display of the email message in the window when the gesture moves in a first direction;

shifting display of the document out of the window while increasing display of the email message in the window when the gesture moves in a second direction different from the first direction;

when a first characteristic of the gesture is detected, discontinuing displaying the document and displaying the email message in the window;

when a second characteristic of the gesture is detected, displaying the document in the window and discontinuing displaying the email message in the window.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising, when the email message comprises unsaved changes, saving the changes in a saved email message when the gesture meets a threshold.
