Abstract

A system for vehicle to another party communications that includes a vehicle personality module adapted to create a vehicle personality and a communications system that utilizes the created vehicle personality for one or more communications instead of a user'"'"'s profile. The one or more communications are associated with one or more of an identifier and an icon representing the vehicle personality, with this identifier and/or icon sent with at least one communication and displayable to the recipient of the communication.

Claims

1. A system for updating one or more of software and firmware in a vehicle comprising:

a status module adapted to determine the availability of an update to the one or more of software and firmware; and

a message module adapted to query one or more other vehicles to determine if they have the update; and

a vehicle firmware/software system adapted to download all or a portion of the update from the one or more other vehicles.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the update is partially downloaded from a plurality of the one or more other vehicles.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the update is partially updated from a central repository.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the update is downloaded based on one or more rules or preferences.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the update is downloaded based on a projected proximity to the one or more other vehicles.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the update is downloaded directly from the one or more other vehicles.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the update is sharable with one or more additional vehicles.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein a diagnostics module confirms the integrity of the update.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the message module broadcasts the availability of the update to one or more additional vehicles.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the message module confirms the update is correct for the vehicle.

11. A method for updating one or more of software and firmware in a vehicle comprising:

determining the availability of an update to the one or more of software and firmware; and

querying one or more other vehicles to determine if they have the update; and

downloading all or a portion of the update from the one or more other vehicles.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the update is partially downloaded from a plurality of the one or more other vehicles.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the update is partially updated from a central repository.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the update is downloaded based on one or more rules or preferences.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the update is downloaded based on a projected proximity to the one or more other vehicles.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein the update is downloaded directly from the one or more other vehicles.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein the update is sharable with one or more additional vehicles.

18. The method of claim 11, wherein a diagnostics module confirms the integrity of the update.
