Abstract

Systems and methods of use for continuous analyte measurement of a host'"'"'s vascular system are provided. In some embodiments, a continuous glucose measurement system includes a vascular access device, a sensor and sensor electronics, the system being configured for insertion into communication with a host'"'"'s circulatory system.

4. A continuous analyte sensor system for measuring an analyte concentration in a host, the system comprising:

a first sensor configured to detect an analyte while implanted in the host, wherein the first sensor comprises an electrochemical sensor configured to generate a first signal;

a second sensor configured to detect the analyte while implanted in the host, wherein the second sensor comprises a optical sensor configured to generate a second signal; and

a processor module configured to process the first signal and the second and determine a analyte concentration.

5. The continuous analyte sensor system of claim 4, wherein the optical sensor comprises a fluorescent molecule.

6. The continuous analyte sensor system of claim 4, wherein the optical sensor comprises a fiber optic probe.

7. The continuous analyte sensor system of claim 4, wherein the analyte is glucose.

8. The continuous analyte sensor system of claim 4, wherein the system is configured for automatic calibration.
