Abstract

A computer-implemented method includes receiving from a telemetric apparatus carried by a first vehicle an identity of an operator of the first vehicle and kinematic data characterizing movement and first location of the first vehicle. At least one weather condition associated with the first location is received from a source of environmental data. At least one of terrain geometry of the first location, road speed limit at the first location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by an instrument proximate the first location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the first location is received from a source of location-specific data. The data received by the first communication device is stored in a database. Data from the database is provided to at least one entity.

Claims

1. A computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing device, enable the processing device to perform a method comprising the steps of:

receiving from a telemetric apparatus carried by a first vehicle having one or more sensors an identity of an operator of the first vehicle and kinematic data characterizing movement and first location of the first vehicle;

receiving from a source of environmental data at least one condition associated with the first location;

receiving from a source of location-specific data at least one of terrain geometry of the first location, a road geometry constraint at the first location, road speed limit at the first location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by the one or more first-vehicle sensors or an instrument proximate the first location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the first location;

storing in a database the received data; and

providing data from the database to at least one entity.

2. The medium of claim 1, wherein the kinematic data is asynchronous and heterogeneous

3. The medium of claim 2, wherein the method further comprises the step of calculating a driver independent risk index for the vehicle on a per trip basis based on the data received by the first communication device.

4. The medium of claim 3, wherein the method further comprises the steps of:

calculating a collision level index (CLI) based on the environmental data, biometric data and local incident history;

after calculating the CLI, calculating vehicle performance metrics as a vehicle risk index (VRI) and a driver safety index (DSI) based on ranked parameters derived from the driver responses and exceedances within the driven environment.

5. The medium of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises:

receiving from a telemetric apparatus carried by a second vehicle having one or more sensors the identity of the operator and kinematic data characterizing movement and second location of the second vehicle;

receiving from a source of environmental data at least one condition associated with the second location; and

receiving from a source of location-specific data at least one of terrain geometry of the second location, a road geometry constraint at the first location, road speed limit at the second location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by the one or more second-vehicle sensors or an instrument proximate the second location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the second location;

6. The medium of claim 1, wherein the method further comprises enabling a user to restrict the data provided to the at least one entity data from the database.

7. The medium of claim 1, wherein the telemetric apparatus comprises a mobile telephone, with connected sensors and cameras.

8. A system, comprising:

a first computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by a telemetric apparatus carried by a first vehicle having one or more sensors, enable the telemetric apparatus to provide an identity of an operator of the first vehicle and kinematic data characterizing movement and first location of the first vehicle;

at least one first communication device communicatively coupled with the telemetric apparatus and configured to receive the identity and kinematic data, the at least one first communication device further communicatively coupled with (a) a source of environmental data comprising at least one weather condition associated with the first location, and (b) a source of location-specific data comprising at least one of terrain geometry of the first location, road speed limit at the first location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by the one or more first-vehicle sensors or an instrument proximate the first location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the first location;

a database coupled to the at least one first communication device and configured to store the data received by the first communication device; and

at least one second communication device communicatively coupled to at least one entity to provide data from the database to the at least one entity.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the kinematic data is asynchronous and heterogeneous

The system of claim 9, further comprising a second computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing device, enable the processing device to perform a method comprising the step of calculating a portable driver score of the vehicle operator based on the data received by the first communication device.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the method further comprises the steps of:

calculating a collision level index (CLI) based on the portable driver score;

after calculating the CLI, calculating vehicle performance metrics as a vehicle risk index (VRI) and a driver safety index (DSI).

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the at least one first communication device receives:

from a telemetric apparatus carried by a second vehicle having one or more sensors the identity of the operator and kinematic data characterizing movement and second location of the second vehicle;

from a source of environmental data at least one weather condition associated with the second location; and

from a source of location-specific data at least one of terrain geometry of the second location, road speed limit at the second location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by the one or more second-vehicle sensors or an instrument proximate the second location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the second location.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein at least one of the telemetric apparatus and processing device enables a user to restrict the data provided to the at least one entity data from the database.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the telemetric apparatus comprises a mobile telephone with connected sensors and cameras.

15. A system, comprising:

a telemetric apparatus carried by a first vehicle having one or more sensors and configured to provide an identity of an operator of the first vehicle and kinematic data characterizing movement for the purpose of computing a portable risk management score;

at least one first communication device communicatively coupled with the telemetric apparatus and configured to receive the identity and kinematic data, the at least one first communication device further communicatively coupled with (a) a source of environmental data comprising at least one weather condition associated with the first location, and (b) a source of location-specific data comprising at least one of terrain geometry of the first location, road speed limit at the first location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by the one or more first-vehicle sensors or an instrument proximate the first location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the first location;

a database coupled to the at least one first communication device and configured to store the data received by the first communication device; and

at least one second communication device communicatively coupled to at least one entity to provide data from the database to the at least one entity.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the kinematic data is asynchronous and heterogeneous

The system of claim 16, further comprising a computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing device, enable the processing device to perform a method comprising the step of calculating a portable driver score of the vehicle operator based on the data received by the first communication device.

after calculating the CLI, calculating a vehicle risk index (VRI) and a driver safety index (DSI).

19. The system of claim 15, wherein the at least one first communication device receives:

from a telemetric apparatus carried by a second vehicle having one or more sensors the identity of the operator and kinematic data characterizing movement and second location of the second vehicle;

from a source of environmental data at least one weather condition associated with the second location; and

from a source of location-specific data at least one of terrain geometry of the second location, road speed limit at the second location, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) data generated by the one or more second-vehicle sensors or an instrument proximate the second location, and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) data generated by an instrument proximate the second location.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein at least one of the telemetric apparatus and processing device enables a user to restrict the data provided to the at least one entity data from the database.
