Abstract

An extensible communication system is described herein. The system includes a first module for receiving a root index value and for generating a constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence based on the root value. The system further includes a second module for receiving a seed value and for generating a Pseudo-Noise sequence based on the seed value. The system further includes a third module for modulating the constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence by the Pseudo-Noise sequence and for generating a complex sequence. The system further includes a fourth module for translating the complex sequence to a time domain sequence, wherein the fourth module applies a cyclic shift to the time domain sequence to obtain a shifted time domain sequence.

Claims

1. An extensible communication system, comprising:

a first module for receiving a root index value and for generating a constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence based on the root value;

a second module for receiving a seed value and for generating a Pseudo-Noise sequence based on the seed value;

a third module for modulating the constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence by the Pseudo-Noise sequence and for generating a complex sequence; and

a fourth module for translating the complex sequence to a time domain sequence, wherein the fourth module applies a cyclic shift to the time domain sequence to obtain a shifted time domain sequence.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the cyclic shifts are representative of communication information.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the root index value comprises a non-prime number.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the second module is derived from a linear feedback shift register.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the operation of the linear feedback shift register is governed by a generator polynomial specifying the taps in a linear feedback shift register feedback path followed by a mask specifying elements that contribute to the sequence output.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein specification of the generator polynomial and the initial state of the linear feedback shift registers represents the seed.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the cyclic shift is represented as {tilde over (M)}_n (0≦

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the shifted time domain sequence comprises a synchronization signal positioned at the start of the sequence to enable service discovery of a waveform.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the shifted time domain sequence comprises control signaling configured to permit the reception and decoding of a waveform.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the final symbol period of the time domain sequence is inverted relative to the preceding symbol period to indicate termination of the time domain sequence.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the product of the constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence and the Pseudo-Noise sequence has reflective symmetry about the subcarrier.

12. An extensible communication method, comprising the steps of:

receiving a root index value and generating a constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence based on the root value;

receiving a seed value and generating a Pseudo-Noise sequence based on the seed value;

modulating the constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence by the Pseudo-Noise sequence and generating a complex sequence; and

translating the complex sequence to a time domain sequence and applying a cyclic shift to the time domain sequence to obtain a shifted time domain sequence.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the cyclic shifts are representative of communication information.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein the root index value comprises a non-prime number.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein the cyclic shift is represented as {tilde over (M)}_n (0≦

16. The method of claim 12, further comprising the step of including in the shifted time domain sequence a synchronization signal positioned at the start of the sequence to enable service discovery of a waveform.

17. The method of claim 12, further comprising the step of including in the shifted time domain sequence control signaling configured to permit the reception and decoding of a waveform.

18. The method of claim 12, further comprising the step of inverting the final symbol period of the time domain sequence relative to the preceding symbol period to indicate termination of the time domain sequence.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein the product of the constant amplitude zero auto-correlation sequence and the Pseudo-Noise sequence has reflective symmetry about the subcarrier.
