Abstract

A method for operating a transmitting device to communicate with a receiving device is described herein. The method includes the step of the transmitting device selecting a root index value from a set of root index values. The method further includes the step of the transmitting device generating a frequency domain Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation sequence based on the selected root index value. The method further includes the step of the transmitting device modulating the Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation sequence by a pseudo-noise sequence. The method further includes the step of the transmitting device generating an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing symbol, wherein the frequency domain Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation sequence modulated by the pseudo-noise sequence defines subcarrier values for the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing symbol. The method further includes the step of the transmitting device transmitting the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing symbol as an initial Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing symbol of a preamble of a frame to the receiving device.

Claims

1. A method for data encoding, comprising:

generating a first Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbol using a first sequence;

transmitting the first OFDM symbol to a receiver;

determining a cyclic shift based on information to be signaled to the receiver;

applying the cyclic shift to the first sequence to generate a second sequence;

generating a second OFDM symbol using the second sequence; and

transmitting the second OFDM symbol to the receiver.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first sequence is a frequency domain Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation (CAZAC) sequence.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the CAZAC sequence includes a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence.

4. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

selecting a root index value from a set of root index values; and

generating the frequency domain CAZAC sequence based on the selected root index value.

5. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

modulating the frequency domain CAZAC sequence by a pseudo-noise (PN) sequence to generate a complex sequence; and

mapping the complex sequence to a plurality of subcarriers to generate the first OFDM symbol.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

generating the PN sequence using a linear feedback shift register.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the information comprises frame configuration information.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the first OFDM symbol corresponds to an initial OFDM symbol of a preamble of a communication frame.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the frame configuration information comprises a length of the preamble or a length of the communication frame

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the communication frame is an Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 communication frame.

11. A transmitter, comprising:

a memory storing program instructions; and

a processor, upon executing the program instructions, configured to;

transmit the first OFDM symbol to a receiver;

determine a cyclic shift based on information to be signaled to the receiver;

apply the cyclic shift to the first sequence to generate a second sequence;

generate a second OFDM symbol using the second sequence; and

transmit the second OFDM symbol to the receiver.

12. The transmitter of claim 11, wherein the first sequence is a frequency domain Constant Amplitude Zero Auto-Correlation (CAZAC) sequence.

13. The transmitter of claim 12, wherein the CAZAC sequence includes a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence.

14. The transmitter of claim 12, wherein the processor, upon executing the instructions, is further configured to:

select a root index value from a set of root index values; and

generate the frequency domain CAZAC sequence based on the selected root index value.

15. The transmitter of claim 12, wherein the processor, upon executing the instructions, is further configured to:

modulate the frequency domain CAZAC sequence by a pseudo-noise (PN) sequence to generate a complex sequence; and

map the complex sequence to a plurality of subcarriers to generate the first OFDM symbol.

16. The transmitter of claim 15, wherein the processor, upon executing the instructions, is further configured to:

generate the PN sequence using a linear feedback shift register.

17. The transmitter of claim 11, wherein the information comprises frame configuration information.

18. The transmitter of claim 17, wherein the first OFDM symbol corresponds to an initial OFDM symbol of a preamble of a communication frame.

19. The transmitter of claim 18, wherein the frame configuration information comprises a length of the preamble or a length of the communication frame

20. The transmitter of claim 18, wherein the communication frame is an Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 communication frame.
