1. A method for adjusting a transmission rate of a network device, comprising:

  • transmitting a data stream from a transmitter at an original transmission rate;

    reducing the original transmission rate to a current transmission rate, the current transmission rate being less than the original transmission rate, the current transmission rate having a first bandwidth allocation;

    receiving a transmission rate recovery request at the network device, the request being received from a master device on the network, the transmission rate recovery request instructing the network device to adjust and maintain the current transmission rate;

    obtaining an additional bandwidth allocation from the master device on the network and responsive to receiving the request increasing the current transmission rate of the network device to provide substantially the original transmission rate utilizing a total bandwidth allocation, the total bandwidth allocation including the additional bandwidth allocation and the first bandwidth allocation.
