New NPE Sues Vicon Industries

February 24, 2013

Hawk Technology Systems filed suit against Vicon Industries, a provider of IP-based security solutions, alleging that the defendant’s high definition security and monitoring systems infringe a reissued patent (RE43,462) related to a video storage and display system (5,625,410). This is the first patent infringement suit initiated by Hawk. In August 2012, Hawk was subject to a declaratory judgment action brought by surveillance and security company Avigilon. According to the complaint, Hawk was formed in 2012 “to commercialize the inventions of its founder, Barry Schwab,” who invented the patent-in-suit with Ken Washino. Mr. Schwab and Mr. Washino have together invented a number of patents related to video monitoring, video downloading, and digital imaging used in a variety of markets, according to the company’s website. 2/21, Southern District of Florida, 1;13cv20632.
