Voice Integration Technologies Sues Makers and Suppliers of Networking Solutions

January 8, 2013

Voice Integration Technologies (VIT) filed eight separate suits against Motorola, SMC Networks, Belkin, Draytek, Netgear, Zoom Telephonics, Technicolor, and Planet Technology alleging that the defendants’ router, firewall, or VPN devices infringe a patent related to voice recognition technology (7,127,048). These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by VIT. The patent-in-suit originated with Paradyne and was later assigned by Zhone Technologies to Patent Business Development in February 2011. In May 2012 Patent Business Development transferred the patent-in-suit to Clearwater Innovations, which executed an assignment to VIT on the same day that it received the patent. RPX reviewed the patent-in-suit as part of an open market opportunity (Zhone-Acq) in August 2009. 1/4, District of Delaware, 1:13cv00056; 1:13cv00057; 1:13cv00058. 12/28, District of Delaware, 1:2012cv01794; 1:2012cv01795; 1:2012cv01796; 1:2012cv01797; 1:2012cv01798.
