Phoenix Licensing and LPL Licensing File Seven Suits against Banks and Insurance Providers

Phoenix Licensing [NPE] and LPL Licensing [NPE] filed seven separate suits against Allied, American Express, Ameriprise, Fifth Third, GEICO, IDS, Nationwide, Progressive, and Travelers, alleging that the defendants’ personalized marketing communications for financial products or services infringe three patents (depending on the defendant) related to software for financial product selection and marketing.  Phoenix and LPL have filed eight prior suits and have been subject to eight actions for declaratory judgment since July 2007.  The patents-in-suit were assigned to Phoenix by inventor Richard Libman in January 2003.  According to the complaints, LPL is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit.  4/16, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 2:2012cv00208; 2:2012cv00209; 2:2012cv00210; 2:2012cv00211; 2:2012cv00212; 2:2012cv002013; 2:2012cv00214.
