Two new Rembrandt IP plaintiff entities have filed suit against Apple. Rembrandt Patent Innovations (RPI) and Rembrandt Secure Computing (RPS) are asserting a patent related to secure bootstrap processing in a computer system (6,185,678). The patent, which has not been previously used in litigation, is owned by RPI and exclusively licensed to RSC. Apple’s operating system and computing devices that run it are accused of infringement. The asserted patent originated with the University of Pennsylvania and was briefly assigned to National Security Agency in 2013. There is no recorded assignment to Rembrandt. 1/10, Eastern District of Texas, 2:14cv00015
