Maxim Integrated Sues Branch Banking and Trust Company

  • June 21, 2012

Maxim Integrated Products [NCE] filed suit against Branch Banking and Trust Company (BB&T), alleging that BB&T’s mobile banking services infringe four patents related to electronic modules used for secure transactions.  Maxim has filed 10 prior suits since January 2012 against defendants including Expedia and Groupon, and has also been subject to eight separate actions for declaratory judgment over the same time period.  On June 18, 2012 BB&T filed a DJ against Maxim in the Eastern District of North Carolina over the same patents-in-suit.  Maxim acquired the four patents-in-suit through an assignment executed in June 2008 from Dallas Semiconductor Corporation, which it acquired in 2001 for approximately $2.5 billion.  6/19, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 4:2012cv00369.
