Inventor-Controlled Plaintiff Clarifies Ownership of Patents, Sues Apple

April 15, 2023

Roughly two years ago, on the eve of trial, Clear Imaging Research, LLC dismissed with prejudice an Eastern District of Texas case against Samsung in light of a noticed settlement. The inventor-controlled plaintiff has now returned to litigation, this time suing Apple (3:23-cv-00673) in the Southern District of California over patents from the same large family, all generally related to image capture and processing. Samsung challenged the rights held by Clear Imaging Research in the patents that it asserted there; two additional assignments have since been recorded with the USPTO to—“[f]or the avoidance of doubt”—clarify that Clear Imaging Research owns all right, title, and interest in family of patents, including “all rights to sue and collect for past damages”.
