California Plaintiff Points New Suit at Microsoft’s Surface Slim Pen

As the exclusive licensee of a single asserted patent that generally relates to a “pointing apparatus capable of providing haptic feedback”, recently formed Haptix Solutions LLC has filed suit against Microsoft (8:24-cv-00428) in the Central District of California. In its certification of interested parties, Haptix identifies the patent’s owner, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), as the only nonparty having a “pecuniary interest in the outcome of this case”.

VisionX Technologies Files First Suit
New Patent Litigation
Earlier this year, RPX covered the transfer of three patents from Intellectual Discovery Co., Ltd. to VisionX Technologies, LLC, a Texas entity with ties to a familiar figure in patent monetization. VisionX has now filed its first suit, accusing Sony (2:22-cv-00178) of infringing all three received assets—generally related to image sensors—through the provision of certain image sensors and related camera modules. Apple, ASUSTek, Huawei, Motorola, Nokia, and Razer are identified as customers of the defendant, allegedly having incorporated the accused sensors into their various products, but are not named as codefendants.

New NPE with Familiar Ties Acquires Patents from Intellectual Discovery

Recently released USPTO records reflect an early January assignment from Intellectual Discovery Co., Ltd. to an NPE formed in Texas late last year. Public records tie the assignee to a California law firm associated with multiple litigating NPEs over the years.
