IPinvestments Group Campaign over Former IV Patents Extends into a Fourth District
New Patent Litigation
Visible Connections, LLC has followed its August 2019 suit against Blue Jeans Network in the Central District of California with a new case, this one filed against Citrix and LogMeIn (1:19-cv-02118) in the District of Delaware. The new filing brings to four the number of districts in which the plaintiff, an NPE affiliated with Atlanta-based monetization firm IP Investments Group LLC (d/b/a IPinvestments Group), is litigating two patents—one generally related to teleconferencing via a data connection; the other, to real-time application sharing—including the Western District of Texas (an October 2018 suit against ZOHO) and the Northern District of Georgia (a July 2019 suit against Zoom Video Communications).

After Berkheimer and Aatrix Block Another Early Alice Challenge, NPE Expands Conferencing Campaign
New Patent Litigation
Visible Connections, LLC has filed a second case in the campaign that it began last October. The new defendant is Zoom Video Communications (1:19-cv-03148), which is targeted with the same two patents—one generally related to teleconferencing via a data connection; the other, to real-time application sharing—over the provision of its Zoom Meetings, which features audio and video conferencing. This second case in the campaign follows a decision by District Judge Robert Pitman in the Western District of Texas that cites Berkheimer and Aatrix in rejecting a Rule 12 motion challenging the same two patents under Alice.

More Patents Received from IV Appear in Litigation by IPinvestments Group Affiliates
New Patent Litigation
IP Investments Group LLC (d/b/a IPinvestments Group) has launched one new campaign, via affiliate Visible Connections, LLC, and expanded another, through affiliate SynchView Technologies, LLC, both over patents recently acquired from Intellectual Ventures LLC (IV). As RPX noted this past May, multiple patents received from IV were passed along to Visible Connections, including two telecommunications conferencing patents originating with Spiderphone; and one patent generally related to an interface program for sharing an application program between two or more computers, developed by GTE Laboratories (which merged in 2000 with Bell Atlantic, forming Verizon). The NPE has now asserted two of those patents against ZOHO (1:18-cv-00859), zeroing in on the defendant’s provision of various products and services offering videoconferencing and screen-sharing features. Meanwhile, SynchView has added cases against Charter Communications (4:18-cv-00719) and Consolidated Communications (Consolidated Communications of Texas) (9:18-cv-00183) to the DVR campaign begun this past May.
