Network Security and Search at Issue in Growing Selene Campaign
Barracuda Networks, Google, HP, Juniper Networks, LinkedIn, and Microsoft were accused of infringing at least one of two patents that Selene Communication has asserted throughout its litigation campaign. Both patents originated with SRI International and were acquired by Selene in July 2013 (6,363,377, 7,143,444). The ‘377 patent relates to generating search queries while the ‘444 patent relates to network intrusion detection. Each case asserts at least one of the patents and the suits against HP and Microsoft assert both patents. Defendants’ servers with an intrusion detector process are accused of infringing ‘444 while search functionalities are accused of infringing ‘377. LinkedIn Added to Selene Communication Search Campaign
Selene Communication filed suit against LinkedIn accusing the online professional networking service of infringing a single patent (6,363,377)related to search queries in an information management system. Since March 2014, Selene, a subsidiary of Helios IP, has sued asserted the patent in suits against nine defendants including Dell, EMC, Monster Worldwide, Open Text, Oracle, Reed Elsevier, Rackspace and Thomson Reuters. Selene acquired a total of three patents including two related to network security from SRI International last year. One of those, (7,143,444) has been asserted in a second campaign launched in February against networking and security companies including Dell, EMC, Extreme Networks, Fortinet, Intel, Trend Micro, and Verizon. 4/14, District of Delaware, 1:14cv00462

Former SRI Patents Asserted Against Three More Defendants
The second round of filings from Selene Communication Technologies targets nine companies involved in networking and communication: AT&T, Dell, EMC, Open Text, Oracle, Reed Elsevier, Rackspace, and Verizon. In February 2014, Selene filed its first suit against networking company, Cisco, accusing the company of infringing a patent related to network intrusion detection (7,143,444). That same patent is involved in the new litigations, along with a second patent related to searching an information management system (6,363,377). Each case accuses defendants’ data storage and analysis products of infringing the patents. Cisco Sued over Former SRI Patent in New Network Security Campaign
