New NPE Tags Mobile Banking Apps with Familiar Media Upload and Processing Portfolio
New Patent Litigation
Lupercal LLC, an apparent affiliate of monetization firm IPValuation Partners, LLC (IPVal), has launched a litigation campaign, suing Citibank (6:19-cv-00201) and Plains Capital (6:19-cv-00202) in the Western District of Texas. The plaintiff asserts a single patent, generally related to “media submission”, from a family familiar to litigation, having members previously asserted against Apple, BlackBerry, HTC, Facebook, LG Electronics, Motorola Mobility, Multiply, Photobucket, Samsung, and Twitter. The new complaints target image uploading in the mobile check deposit features of the Citi Mobile and Plains Capital Mobile Banking apps.

January 2018 RPX Acquisitions Update
RPX completed a number of acquisitions on behalf of its patent risk management network in January 2018, obtaining rights to the patents involved either to end litigation against its members or to prevent it in the first place. Acquisitions occurred within the Consumer Electronics and PCs market sector, as well as in the financial services space.

Summit 6 Targets Twitter Functionality in New Handset Case
Following last year’s success at trial, Summit 6 has filed a new case asserting the same two patents previously used in litigation (6,895,557, 7,765,482) along with a third patent that has not previously been asserted (8,612,515). The suit names Twitter as a defendant along with Apple, HTC, LG, and Motorola Mobility. The five defendants are accused of infringement through integration of Twitter content upload functionality. Summit sued Facebook, Multiply, Photobucket and Samsung in 2011. At trial in 2013, a jury found in favor of Summit against Samsung- the last remaining defendant. 2/23, Northern District of Texas, 3:11cv00367
