Amended Disclosures Filed in Judge Connolly’s Courtroom Could Put IP Edge Practices Under the Microscope
Patent Market, Patent Watch, TPLF
Evidence of IP Edge LLC’s frequent practice of naming individuals—seemingly with no discernible connections to patent monetization—as managers or managing members of its various LLCs has long been reported by RPX. Now, with Amazon having recently brought that practice to the attention of Chief Judge Colm F. Smartphone Predictive Text Campaign Expands in Its Second Month
New Patent Litigation

New IP Edge Campaign Sets Its Sights on Smartphones
New Patent Litigation
Two of IP Edge LLC’s end-of-June litigation campaigns litigate patents received from a familiar source, individual inventor Prashant Parikh. Plaintiff Mountech IP LLC has sued BlackBerry (1:20-cv-00865), Lenovo (Motorola Mobility) (1:20-cv-00867), LG Electronics (LGE) (1:20-cv-00866), Samsung (1:20-cv-05029), and ZTE (2:20-cv-01014). Two Parikh patents, broadly directed to computing contextual associations between character strings through “documents in the character entry system” and completing incomplete character strings through the computed data, are asserted against each defendant, with Mountech IP targeting the provision of smartphones that feature a predictive text system, including the Blackberry KEYone, Motorola G6 Forge, LG Risio 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, and ZTE Blade T2 Lite, respectively.

IP Edge’s Patent Pipeline Looks Packed
COVID-19, Patent Market, Patent Watch
Having launched over a dozen new campaigns during the first half of 2020, public records indicate that IP Edge LLC continues to create new Texas NPEs—including at least 20 in the past three months alone. It also appears to have a full pipeline of patents poised for litigation, with USPTO records reflecting a number of patent assignments to various IP Edge affiliates recorded this month. Meanwhile, multiple recent internal transfers among IP Edge NPEs gave rise to new litigation filed this past week.
