Mers Kutt, founder of All Computers Inc. and individual inventor who reportedly invented the personal computer in the 1970’s, filed suit against seven major companies who either make, use, or sell products using microprocessor technology, including Apple, Best Buy, IBM, Intel, JP Morgan Chase, RIM and Advanced Micro Devices alleging that the defendants jointly infringe a patent related to circuitry that controls the frequency of signals heading to microprocessors through a chip set (5,506,981). The self-acclaimed computer pioneer previously filed suit against Intel in May 2004 claiming that Intel’s Pentium II processor infringed the ’981 patent. The 2004 lawsuit sought over $500 million in damages as well as a permanent injunction against Intel, but was eventually dismissed by Intel on February 9, 2005 (The case is All Computers Inc. v. Intel Corp., 1:04-cv-00586, Eastern District of Virginia).
