Acacia’s Unified Messaging Solutions Sues Avid Life Media, Cupid, and PlentyofFish Media

Unified Messaging Solutions (UMS) [NPE] three separate suits against Avid Life Media, Cupid, and PlentyofFish, alleging that the defendants’ webmail services infringe five patents related to web-based messaging systems.  UMS has filed over 15 prior suits since March 2011 against over 35 defendants including AT&T, eBay, Facebook, Google, RIM, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, Time Warner, Travelocity, Twitter, Verizon, Walgreen, and Yahoo.  UMS, a subsidiary of Acacia Research, is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, which originated with either J2 Global Communications or NetOffice Solutions and were assigned to Advanced Messaging Technologies in May 2010.  4/26, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 6:2012cv00288; 6:2012cv00289; 6:2012cv00290.
