After a Decade of Litigation Life, SoftVault’s Campaign Sees Five More Defendants Added in November...So Far
New Patent Litigation
SoftVault Systems, Inc. has added yet more cases to its long-running litigation campaign. The NPE, controlled by named inventors, has asserted two familiar patents (6,249,868; 6,594,765) against Adobe (4:16-cv-06474), AVG Technologies (4:16-cv-06471), F-Secure (4:16-cv-06473), Kony (4:16-cv-06469), and Oracle (4:16-cv-06454). The patents generally relate to remotely disabling hardware or software components of a computing device via interaction between an “embedded agent” in the component and a remote server. Throughout the campaign, SoftVault has targeted mechanisms for remote locking/disabling/activation, for these latest defendants, “the vast majority” of Adobe’s application software, AVG’s Managed Workplace, F-Secure’s SAFE software, Kony’s MobileFabric Platform and Management software, and Oracle’s Mobile Security Suite.

Samsung the Latest Defendant in SoftVault Systems Campaign
In its decade-long campaign asserting the same two patents (6,249,868; 6,594,765), SoftVault Systems, Inc. has filed a new complaint against Samsung (5:16-cv-04802). The ‘868 and ‘765 patents generally relate to remotely disabling hardware or software components of a computing device via interaction between an “embedded agent” in the component and a remote server. SoftVault Systems accuses Samsung of infringement through provision of products having a mechanism for remote locking/disabling, identifying as an example Samsung’s KNOX platform (along with its SDS EMM and CellWe software).

SoftVault Sweeps Sony into Its Decade-Long Litigation Campaign
SoftVault Systems, Inc. has added Sony (3:16-cv-02241) to its long-running litigation campaign asserting the same two patents (6,249,868; 6,594,765) since 2006. The patents generally relate to remotely disabling hardware or software components of a computing device via interaction between an “embedded agent” in the component and a remote server. The NPE accuses of infringement Sony’s products having a mechanism for remote locking/disabling, giving as an example Sony SecuROM.

A Third Alice-Related Motion Remains Pending as SoftVault Hits AT&T Mobility and HP Enterprise
SoftVault Systems, Inc. has filed suit against AT&T Mobility (5:16-cv-00374) and HP Enterprise (5:16-cv-0379), asserting the same two patents (6,249,868; 6,594,765) that have been nearly continuously in suit in SoftVault’s litigation campaign since 2006. The patents generally relate to remotely disabling hardware or software components of a computing device via interaction between an “embedded agent” in the component and a remote server. The NPE accuses of infringement the defendants’ mechanisms for remotely locking/disabling a mobile device (e.g. AT&T Toggle, HP Touchpoint Manager).

Smart Meter Makers Sued in Softvault Device Control Campaign
Itron (3:14-cv-05408), Landis+Gry Technology (3:14-cv-05410), and Sensus (3:14-cv-05411) are the newest defendants in the litigation campaign Softvault Systems, Inc. began almost a decade ago. The recent suits assert the two patents involved in the campaign, 6,249,868 and 6,594,765, and accuse defendants’ remotely controlled smart meters of infringement. The patents-in-suit generally relate to endpoint security management and were developed by Softvault.

SoftVault Expands Its Endpoint Security Campaign with Five New Suits
SoftVault Systems, Inc. continued its campaign asserting two patents related to endpoint security management (6,249,868; 6,594,765). The NPE filed five separate suits against Dassault (3:14-cv-03221), National Instruments (5:14-cv-03212), PTC (5:14-cv-03215), Sophos (3:14-cv-03222), and Tangoe (5:14-cv-03223), targeting products that enable or disable a mobile device, such as a tablet or smartphone, to prevent misuse of the system.

Citrix, Juniper Networks, and Motive Named in Latest Suits by SoftVault
SoftVault Systems, Inc. filed three separate suits against Citrix (4:13-cv-00754), Juniper Networks (4:13-cv-00752), and Alcatel-Lucent (Motive) (3:13-cv-00751). The suits allege that the defendants’ mobile software and endpoint management products infringe two patents related to the use of embedded agents to enable or disable a device (6,249,868; 6,594,765). Since January 2006, SoftVault has filed 13 suits against more than 20 defendants, including Acer, Dell, HP, Intel, Microsoft, RIM, Samsung, and Symantec. According to its website, SoftVault’s patented inventions have broad applications for transactions involving computer software, such as companies providing usage-based payment models (i.e. pay-per-use). 2/20, Northern District of California.

SoftVault Systems, Inc. filed three separate suits against IBM (5:12-cv-05546), Novell (4:12-cv-05541), and RIM (3:12-cv-05544), alleging that the defendants’ mobile software and endpoint management products infringe two patents related to the use of embedded agents to enable or disable a device. SoftVault has filed six prior suits since January 2006 against more than 15 defendants – most recently SAP (Sybase) and Symantec. 10/29, Northern District of California.

SoftVault Systems Sues Symantec
SoftVault Systems Inc. filed suit against Symantec (3:12-cv-01658), alleging that Symantec’s “Mobile Management” systems infringe two patents related to the remote disablement of hardware and digital content. SoftVault has filed four prior suits since January 2006 against more than15 defendants including Dell, Intel, Microsoft, Palm, Samsung, Toshiba, and Yahoo. The patents-in-suit were developed by SoftVault and issued in June 2001 and July 2003 respectively.
